Owner description: Red Square, once the site of executions and military parades, sits smack in the middle of Moscow, bounded on one side by the Kremlin walls and Lenin's tomb and on the other by GUM, the country's largest department store.

I have been here before in the Spring when there were no special events happening and it is amazing... but they pull out all the stops at winter and turn the whole square into a winter wonderland with ice skating, carousels, lights, and an endless amount of fun things to do, see and buy. Ded Moroz and Snyegurochka are even around for the children and the kid in all of us. It is absolutely MAGICAL at this time of year.

Great and huge! I like it! You can feel the power! Too much history here! But it was too cold this January ;)

The architecture, the stately nature of the buildings and cultural interest of Red Square makes this a must see when in Russia. Recently, I was visited Red Square while on a 27 nation motorcycle tour of Russia and Eastern Europe. In addition, I was raised in the Washington D.C. Are and have been to the Western European capitals, such as London, Paris and Berlin. I must say, that I was very amazed at Red Square and felt that it was every bit and possibly more impressive than other capitals. Touring the square at night is a great time to see the contrasting colors.

It is most easy to arrive by Metro, as it is just a few hundred meters to the Red Line at ulitsa Okhotnyy Ryad. The Green and Blue lines of the Metro also have nearby stations. It is difficult to find parking for automobiles near Red Square, so unless you are on a motorcycle, it's better to take the Metro. A circuit around the square can be made in a few hours. In addition, there are place to eat and even a McDonalds adjacent to the Square.
