Owner description: Red Square, once the site of executions and military parades, sits smack in the middle of Moscow, bounded on one side by the Kremlin walls and Lenin's tomb and on the other by GUM, the country's largest department store.

“Must see when in Moscow”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

This landmark cannot be missed when visiting Moscow. Note that this is more or less a big courtyard around the Kremlin, not the Kremlin itself. Many other 'must see' sights there: GUM, St. Basil's, Lenin's tomb. Exhilarating to be in the midst of all that history.

“Exciting and Crowded”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

Red Square is so iconic of Moscow that I don't know how anybody would choose to miss it. Be aware that one side is a church you can visit, a second is a museum, and a third is a high end department store. The fourth side is the Kremlin and can be entered outside the square by paying an admission fee. However, even if you choose not to visit any of these sites, just standing in the square is exciting enough. Note that Lenin's tomb is also in the square, but has been unavailable for visits both times I was there.

“Main attraction”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

Red square is obviously the main attraction and a must see. It is bordered by the Kremlin on one side and the magnificent GUM Shopping mall. There a couple of reasonably priced eateries in GUM and it is quite a spectacular building. Lenins tomb is only open on certain days, so if you want to see a dead mass murderer check them out on line. Kremlin tour also worthwhile, but queues can be very long, so be prepared to get there early or expect a long wait

“Parts of it were closed! there was a band competition in one part, and a dressage display in another part.”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

I like the idea of a huge European square, but at the time of our visit too much was closed off. Luckily the GUM department store is nearby, and sitting outside listening to the bands while drinking tea was a nice restful thing to do.
