Red Square is awesome, rich, historical architecture and consuming.

If the truth be told the best time to see and appreciate the 'Beauty' of the Red Square is in early hours of the morning (in summer), between 0430/0600hrs (especially on weekends, not many people about).

Then you can take a stroll, take your time (no crowd), smell the morning fresh air (feel free), have a cup of coffee (the Mcdonalds) at the end of the square is upon 24/7. And Yes this part of Moscow is 'safe'.

Better still if you have the opportunity; you can drive around the 'Ring Road' and take photos too.

It's Breathtaking

“Central to all Russia is Red Square.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

Remember the english word Red and the English word Beautiful are the same word in Russian. Thus allow that this is Beautiful Square not "Red Communism" Square. Beautiful it is! There are so many Museums with in and near. Also near are excellent sidewalk cafes, although in the Soviet era there were NO cafes. There are so many must sees you need a travel guide. I recommend the Eye Wtness series.

Be sure to see the treasure in The Diamond Fund. Also along the wall behind Lenin's Mausoleum is the burial for all the Soviet Heros. You had to be SOMEBODY to be interred here. Marshal Zhukov is here and I think, Chuikov, hero of Stalingrad. St Basil is the central structure. There are political history museums and a Natural History museum. There is too much really, it can not all be seen in a single vacation period. Walking through GUM is down on my list, Id rather see the Diamond Fund.

Enjoy, be sure to check pocket knifes appropriately!!

I took a tour of Red Square and was amazed with the rich history and the beauty within it. It is really humbling to see something I'd heard about all my life and never thought i'd visit.

“Met expectations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

Its a city square with a massive history but no effort is really made to emphasise its past. It is flanked on one side by the Gum store that must be the most overpriced shopping centre in the world. On the other the Kremlin with Lenin's mausoleum. This is a must visit. It that really Lenin or is this a franchise of Mde Tussauds? St. Basils at the other end is a must visit also. Give yourself an hour to hang out and watch the world go by and make sure yo acknowledge that you are standing in the most famous/infamous city square.
