“Wonderful place to walk”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

A very large, well laid out park and reserve that is a great place to walk on a nice day. The newly constructed wooden palace is too much a reproduction, but some of the smaller buildings are well worth a look

My friend guided me there, great experience but the place was so-so, did not impress me that much on construction and view.

“Asenscion Church”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

Lovely park with nice views, but would warn others that the Church of Ascencion, for which we were charged 40 roubles each to go into was a small room with an icon on one wall - not really worth going inside unless you have a real interest in icons.
You can however walk around the top of the church for a nice panormaic view, although we were told off for taking photos of the view, apparently another ticket was required for this however because the ticket office was all in Russian we did not realise. I would not have paid if i had known though, i wouldnt say the photo opportunity is worth paying for either.

“Wonderful excursion”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

On our early arrival we walked along colourful flower-bordered paths through the imposing Saviour Black Gates with the impressive dark wooden roof. We made our way to the delightful blue domed Church of our Lady of Kazan. Inside an Orthodox ceremony was in progress with lovely ethereal singing and chanting.

We strolled through the highly decorative green roofed front gate. We got our first vistas of the wonderful soaring Church of the Ascension. It has a stupendous tent roof. We were interested to discover that this was the first of its kind and that it was designed to minimise the resting of snow. The interior is beautifully light and white and surprisingly small due to the thickness of the walls supporting the spire.

After visiting the Bell Tower & Church of St George and the nearby water tower we made our way to the cruise ship mooring at the Moskva River. We took an hour-long cruise passing lots of apartment blocks on both riverbanks. It was a lovely sunny day, which compensated for the somewhat less than inspiring vistas on the shore. But the views of the cathedral spires on returning to the dock were particularly attractive.

When we were leaving in the early afternoon, many people were arriving laden with picnic bags.
