Great gallery, spreading over two storeys, quite compact so you can manage to see all of the exhibits in three hours which is nice compared to other large galleries. Many beautiful pictures are exhibited here and even though you knew nothing about the Russian painters before, you will learn much. Yes, this is the gallery for all Russian painters as opposed to the Pushkin gallery which contains world art. Perhaps take a guided tour that will point you out the most notable paintings and relate the history behind them. However, you can also do it another way as the webpage of this gallery contains pictures of all of its paintings with short comments on the most important ones so you can either prepare this beforehand or check the history of a painting you've especially liked. Bonus points for that! Warning, this gallery is mostly frequented on weekends, so if you can manage to visit it on a weekday, it would be better as it won't be that crowded.
