“Good service and value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2012

I spent five days here on a first time vacation trip to Russia, and the hotel definitely met my expectations. Finding the hotel from the metro the first time was a bit difficult albeit the signage at the metro station, but was easy afterwards. I found the area ok at any time of day or night, and no reason to feel insecure.

The staff speaks the necessary amount of English and were quite friendly. They also dealt with Visa registration automatically. The room was large and comfortable, but smelt a bit of smoke even though it was non-smoking. I won't say the decor is the most beautiful I've ever seen, but everything was clean and practical. The shower curtain was a bother though, slipping into the shower all the time and providing little protection from spilling water.

At breakfast, there's a choice of some hot dishes (omelette, sausages, fried chicken etc.) where some were changed daily, and was ok. The cold cuts were the same each day, and could have been more plentiful.

Getting into Moscow is a 20-minute Metro ride and 7-8 minutes walk to the station. Once accustomed to this, the very frequent trains made this painless. If you're home before midnight there's a small shop in the same building as the hotel, which is convenient.

In all, I think the hotel provides great value for the price, and especially for Moscow. I'd be happy to stay there again.

We chose this hotel because of the availability of a triple room at a reasonable price. The hotel met our needs well, with good size rooms, cleaned well, good value restaurant, and English speaking reception.

We arrived at night by metro, and managed to find the hotel using the directions on the hotel website, combined with some advance scoping with google streetview. It is probably 10 minutes walk, with most of that spent waiting for the lights and the major street crossing between the metro and the hotel. We found the area busy even at 10pm, and didn't feel threatened for our safety at all. The metro station is about 20 minutes from the city centre, and trains run very frequently on the silver line all day. There is actually a sign (in Cyrillic) directing to the hotel from the metro platform, and metro exit. I didn't follow it, however, so don't know if it would successfully navigate you to the hotel.

Check in was effortless. Reservation found with no problem, and registration all taken care of automatically.

We wanted a non-smoking room, but they had no non-smoking triple rooms. Luckily the room we had was clean and fresh. We had a few issues with people smoking in the hallways outside of the room, but in Russia this is hardly surprising - and could equally well have happened even with non-smoking room.

The room itself looked like it had been renovated about 6-7 years ago. Just before flat screen TVs came in. There was a reasonably priced mini-bar in the room. Three English news satellite channels (BBC, DW, and some other one). Good sized robes, and desk.

We ate in the restaurant one night, and the service was good, and food nice, but basic. The food was served on a plastic "TV dinner" style plate, with different sections for the meat, and the different vegetables. Odd. Mains were around 350 rubles, which I thought was very reasonable for a hotel restaurant.

The breakfast had baked egg and weiners and some other hot selections that varied by the day. Salads, cheeses, breads and cold meats. The pastries didn't seem to be baked fresh, except the croissants, which were great.

Free Internet comes in two varieties - high speed, which is chargeable, and 128k, which was free. Free connection was no problem, but excruciatingly slow at times. Fine for emails, etc, though.

Next trip to Moscow as a tourist I'd be trying to find a place a little closer to the centre. To go back to the hotel from downtown would take over an hour to go there and back, which means if you are touring once you leave in the morning you are gone for the day. However, if I was travelling on business, this place would suit just fine.

I was in Moscow for a week on Business and the Maxima Zariya was good. It was a bit tricky to find at first as their map is set in a different way to Google. However, once there, the room was comfortable and clean (although is smelled of smoke when I had asked for non smoking) with all amenities I would need. Reception staff were helpful and knew what they were doing. Also, the restaurant was good and was open for a good amount of time, though it was a bit pricey for the standard and choice. I ended up moving to their sister hotel, the Panorama due to location.

For a first time trip to Russia the hotel met my requirements perfectly. I booked through their website and it was easy and they communicated all the info to me promptly and effectively.
The taxi from the airport wasn't too expensive at about £30 but is probably wise if you are coming in at night as the hotel is difficult to find by foot. That being said once you have negotiated your way to the metro station once you'll be fine. As the hotel is a bit out of the center of town, you do get to escape the hordes of commuters but this does mean you aren't really anywhere restaurants, bars etc outside of the hotel (if that's what you are looking for)
Rooms were very Spartan and not luxurious at all but were very clean and the bathroom was definitely up to standard. The breakfast was also very simple but served it's purpose well.
The staff speak a communicable amount of English and are very polite which is more than you need and sufficient to get by with any standard requests you may have. Check in and out was as easy as you could hope for.

I would certainly stay here again were I coming for another quick Moscow break but it's probably not right as a honeymoon destination! In a nutshell, for the price, it's fantastic quality.

I stayed there second time. First time I was not impressed, but honestly it's ok, taking into account the price you pay especially during weekends (I paid 55EUR/night with breakfast for Standard room). The location is not that perfect, both for tourists or business travellers, you can park a car outside for free, and subway station should be somewhere nearby, 10 min by walk. The hotel is old soviet itself with some renovation. Staff was ok, efficient and friendly enough (for 3*), room is tasteless decorated (you can meet the same style in Italian cheap old hotels), but clean and contains everything you need. The breakfast was not impressive, omelette, a couple of sorts of cheap salami and cheese, yoghurt, cereals. Overall, not bad for 3* and price in Moscow. Free wi-fi in rooms also.

The hotel has not the best quality. I spent one night here and I'm not happy.

First of all, far from the airport. I drove a taxi for over an hour. Far too long. And I had a problem to communicate in English here. The disadvantage was also quite modest breakfast and a very early time of end of their issue. The hotel's location also quite cumbersome, the building itself very nice, clean and most satisfactory. The area, however, not very nice and it can not feel safe.

Unfortunately I can not recommend this hotel.

The hotel is about 10 minutes’ walk from the nearest metro station and not very easy to find but that is not the main problem. More importantly, the way to the metro station is through a pedestrian walkway and the area does not look very safe. Consider taking a taxi if you plan to return to your room late in the evening.

The rooms are basic but very clean. There is no air-conditioner, which might be a problem in the summer. In the winter, you might have a reverse problem as the heating system is not very efficient and the rooms tend to get cold. As far as I understand, the standard rooms are all smoking rooms, so choose an upgraded room if you are a non-smoker (the non-smoking rooms are all on floors 3, 4, and 5).

The hotel offers free wi-fi but it is incredibly slow. They should change their Internet provider or sign up for a higher speed contract.

Breakfast is surprisingly good, with a lot of variety.

The front desk staff are quite efficient – both check-in and check-out took a mere 5 minutes. All in all, an OK hotel for a budget traveler.

Room Tip: The rooms on floors 3, 4, and 5 are non-smoking rooms.
