“Distinctive, individual hotel”
Reviewed January 21, 2014

We stayed in a "classic" room for three nights in January. Our room was a very good size, agreed the bathroom was not spacious, but it had everything we needed.

Everyone in the hotel was very pleasant and friendly, the buffet breakfast offered lots of choices every morning (and was available until 11am which was great), and the free wifi was also appreciated.

It is also very centrally located, easy walking distance of the Bolshoi, TSUM department store and all the places of interest around Red Square and the Kremlin.

The hotel also has a very distinctive "look" - all the public areas are very ornate with beautifully decorated ceilings in particular.

We very much enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter - but don't have a view.

Fine hotel, relatively expensive. Location is excellent near Kremlin and Kuznetsky Most. Please check the wine list before ordering a glass of white wine in the bar. The waiter will pour the most expensive one (44 euros per glass) without asking! Really filthy toilettes in the bar area. Hotel itself is proper classical moscow style. Good breakfast. Building activity in front of the hotel was unfortunate. I think my expectations were too high when booking.

The hotel is, like all other 5-star hotels in Moscow, not cheap, but you live there almost princely. The entire hotel was designed after a very successful overall renovation after a fire in a gloss, which can not have been brighter when it opened in 1912. The staff at the reception is very young and inexperienced and often looks a bit helpless, but always very friendly. In 5 minutes you can walk to the Bolshoi Theatre and after 10 minutes you get to the Red Square. Several restaurants can be found close to the hotel.

If you are looking for an hotel with a 19th century flavor in the heart of Moscow, with all modern amenities, this is the place to go! Staff very helpful while discreet, location just awesome and rooms are big and with just what you need. Breakfast room is just stunning, not especially for the food but for the antique decoration that is part of the charm.
I have enjoyed that stay and will be surely be back again - but as laways in Moscow, will depend on pricing for the next period I am around as Moscow pricing is very unpredictable ...

Positive: central in the heart of Moscow, nice and kind stuff, very good breakfast both food and location (restaurant with waterfall). Good lounge bar with sometimes life music.
Negative: small room with a smallest bathroom ever. Very high price for nothing special! Design is not modern at all and somebody may not like it.

This renovated 1913 hotel is full of old fashioned glamour with marble floors, comfy sofas and sumptuous bedrooms. Location was excellent within walking distance from Red Square, the Kremlin and the major shops although the road it is in is non descript. Staff are efficient rather than friendly and even in a top floor room it can be noisy. There is obviously a club nearby that plays throbbing music until 6am. Without the noise I would have given this a higher score.
