We stayed one night in the National Hotel and would recommend it strongly. Good location, excellent informal dining room and a nice room. The concierge, Maria, was wonderful and in addition to much helpful advice recommended two excellent local restaurants. Our only complaint was the price of breakfast - GBP70 for two people. A strange country where the best opera tickets can cost less than breakfast!
Beautiful hotel, great location, very clean, comfortable beds. Close to metro and express train cheap and easy to navigate. Only downside is no express check out - 1 person on desk at check out time - too long to wait just to hand over a key!!!
This hotel had great service and the location is very convenient to the Kremlin and Red Square, walking distance to lots of things with shopping malls and restaurants all around. Also you can walk to the Bolshoi Theatre easily. However, the rooms are not the greatest. The courtyard view is not a view at all, the mattresses need replacing, and the smell of smoke even on the non smoking floor is hard to deal with. The restaurant was good although expensive. In the rooms, I did like the door separating the entry with the bedroom to help mitigate noise from the hallway. The history of the building is cool. Internet is very good and FREE! The gym is passable and the pool looked like it would work for doing laps.
I had a magical week. The staff was accommodating and friendly. The hotel is truly in the middle of the adventure. Anyone residing here would be thankful for the opportunity. The staff was very knowledgeable regarding helpful tours and very important to me was the fact that most all spoke several languages. Including English...
The hotel is next to the metro and a short taxi ride to the central station. The location is about as close to Red Square as you can get. It was the perfect location for my short trip to Moscow. The staff are very friendly and the concierge is by far one of the nicest I have ever met. The rooms are very unique and historic. If you are expecting a modern property, you will be disappointed as this hotel is a heritage Luxury Collection hotel. That designation limits it to certain remodeling and updates. The hallways could use some Fereeze but other than that I enjoyed my stay here. The breakfast was very tasty and the view from the dinning area can not be beat. I was upgraded to a jr/suite and it was very spacious. The internet provided a fast connection which was nice to keep up with emails.

If you want to have a true Moscow experience - you have to stay at this landmark hotel. The location is the closest you can have to center. Yes, it's a bit old school (in a charming way), but you have plenty of new in Moscow. If you want the scene - go to Ritz rooftop for drinks right around the corner.
