Quite a few reviews suggest that the rooms are a bit tired and worn and they are pretty right. They are still completely functional though and a lot of the decoration is very pleasant. For older or infirm people the side of the bath is rather high and a bit difficult to get in and out of. Otherwise nothing to be worried about. Plenty of storage for the longer stay.
The common areas are an absolute delight with high ceilings, marble, glass, chandeliers and tons of atmosphere. Staff are very pleasant and helpful, even the housekeeping lady who speaks not a word of English but keeps pulling things out until she gets the right one and hands it to you with a big smile.
Included breakfast is excellent (especially the harp player!!!) but the downer is the price of food and laundry. Ouch!
The biggest plus of all is the location, very close to Red Square and to Gum and to the Metro. A very easy walk.
While not perfect, I would recommend the Metropol most highly for a stay in central Moscow.
