I stayed at this beautiful old hotel twice, and what an experience! I travelled in August, and it just happened that it was a very hot week. Needless to say, they had great heaters, but the air conditioners didn't work as well. They worked with us until we found a room that felt cool enough to sleep in, and they were very nice about it. The junior suite was a deliglht--old fashioned, and yet very comfortable. Location was perfect--near the Bolshoi, GUM, Red Square, and many other famous places. The buffet breakfast was just amazing, so many different Russian and European dishes. We took an "off the beaten path" trip to Izmailov to the flea market, and that was fun, too. They had lots of lacquer boxes, matroyshka, some antiques, old war pins and buttons, and other things one wouldn't think would be for sale. The concierge at the hotel was wonderful at helping us get there via the subway--we wouldn't have made it without her help. I'd definitely go back to the Metropol.
