My girlfriend stayed here in the winter of 2012. Although the price was affordable and the location great (a 5 min walk to the Bolshoi), this is a terrible hotel and should be avoided.

Their heating was not sufficient. The hottest setting on the dial was barely perceptible, causing us to shiver enough to request for an additional heater, which thankfully they had. Still, troublesome.

The mattress was terribly flimsy and caved in in the middle. Seemed like a very worn piece. We made another request, for a new mattress, which they did not have. So they gave us a new additional bed, which wasn't great, but thankfully firmer than the original mattress.

They don't have free wifi, and when we paid for it, the signal kept dropping. Infuriating, especially since we were so peeved and were looking for another hotel by this time.

Lastly, the counter attendant was most unhelpful, and actually rolled her eyes at me when I told her we wanted to check out (we had booked for two nights). It got so bad that I confronted her with "what's your problem", to which she just walked away and got another staff to assist us.

Both did not speak proper English, so you won't get much help from them, even if they were in the mood.

Stay away 100%.

When you compare the Budapest with other hotels in the same range of prices in Europe, it is not worth 4/5 as stated below : old furniture, old facilities (bathrooms, walls and floors deserve a renovation), no free-wifi (I mean really?!), the doorman doesn't actually open the door but stay next to it all day talking to another guy, cleaning was so-so after 2 days (and they didn't put back new shampoo-shower gel (very funny experience to wash your hair with soap...) etc.

But this is Moscow and the location is just excellent : 10 min walk (straight line) to the Red Square (many people are super happy to be 2 metro stops away from it, but here you can just walk there whenever you want), and that is really why you should choose this hotel and what makes it valuable. Also it is in a nice and safe (wealthy) area so that was good, no insecurities. Staff at the reception spoke good english and answer all our questions. Breakfast was enough and continental (pancakes, cereals, fruits, salmon, potatoes, jam, ham, croissant, eggs...). Very big rooms (I had a corridor and a bathtub in my single room). For Moscow and the location the price is actually ok (actually it's the cheaper for such a location). Personnel at the breakfast area were very nice.

So if what you are looking for is a place to come back in the very-center of Moscow after a long day of visit, rather than a place to chill during the day/evening, and you don't mind the old communist style, I'd suggest the hotel to anybody.

Room Tip: If you book a double room, you have the choice between two types of bed, queen size (=single size) o...

This hotel looked very grand, but in the small bathroom floor tiles where cracked, we had to eat in the hotel nextdoor and the use of the pool was at a extra charge of £10 each . The drinks in the hotel are very expensive, £8 for a glass of orange juice and £5 for water.

This hôtel is the very best sign that the soviet time is still running somewhere; Smell, rooms, breakfast... all is lots il that period of time. The only interest if the location in the very center and the price which is not so terrible as moscow is a very very expensive town.
the hotel "peter the first" which belongs to the same owner is 50 meters far but the prices are not on the same range ... It seems that the budapest will be close for a while to be renovated on the style of Peter 1st... smell will change... but also the prices ...
near by, a very very nice uzbek restaurant (one of the best but most expensive one of moscow)

Room Tip: if you go there... you choose to be there !!

Location is excellent. The hotel can be reached from two metro stops less than 5 mins walk (with baggage>).
The breakfast is a treat and a great start for the day
The rooms are on the old style (as is the building) but this gives it a "homely" feel

Prices are creeping up though and in comparison to more modern hotels is geting on the high side of normal, but the location and ease of access (especially in the winter) is a bonus.

We do not eat in so cannot comment. Many good eating places near the hotel.

When booking by internet, make sure to specify budapest hotel as there is a Sister hotel next door called Peter Hotel.

the only down side it the high prie they charge for wifi. 800Rub/24hrs which is outragious.

We have spent 2500rub on a Yota modem which is a 4G and pay 900 Rub topup when we visit for one week business. this is sufficient for 24hr wifi for 1 month. but does not work on a Ipad or Tablet.

Room Tip: request a room on the oppositie side of the main street

An awesome location in walking distance to most of Moscow's main attractions. The rooms are spacious but a bit dated decor wise, warm and the bathroom has been renovated more recently.

The breakfast has a great selection and is of decent quality. Can't really comment on value as we booked through about three travel agents to get a visa the staff all spoke adequate English.

Would definitely recommend.

An older style hotel, clean, quiet, with a large room and the included breakfast was okay. Less fussy eaters would probably say a good breakfast. It has no free wifi, not even in the lobby but staff advised us to go around the corner to Peter First hotel where it was available in lobby (I think they have the same owners).
The room safe is antiquated (with a large key to look after) and not available in all rooms - friends down the corridor had to share ours.
Most noise from the street is effectively kept out by double windows and double doors.
Comfortable walk to attractions such as Red Square and Bolshoi Theatre.
