Description: What should be a genuine Georgian restaurant? We hope that you'll find the answer in the Saperavi. Ajapsandali and gebjalia, pkhali and pelamushi are cooked according to ancient Mingrelian recipes and in proper utensil. But the owners afforded themselves liberties in the interior such as walls with the hand-painted vine leaves and old photos as wallpapers. You may run in for a quick lunch , arrange a celebratory dinner in keeping with the best traditions of Georgian feast, or come with children on a weekend - we are always glad to see You!

Cosy restaurant with the tasty home-made like food makes it one of the most popular Georgian food restaurant in the city. Great variety of dishes. I have been there several times and never got disappointed. Try harcho soup which is particular tasty, hachapuri is also good. Make reservations in advance. They have brunch menu on weekends. Unfortunately there is no Georgian wine...The restaurant won the best restaurant in the category "The best contemporary Caucasian restaurant" in 2012.

We were staying across the street at the Marriott Tverskaya and were in search of someplace affordable for dinner. In Moscow, "affordable" is relative, but we were really delighted to stumble upon Saperavi. It was such a delight that we dined there on two successive evenings.

Of note: My colleague had the chicken Tabak - a plump half-bird that was juicy and beautifully seasoned. The pile of clean bones on his plate bore testament that this was a winner. I had a pot of the most tender, aromatic lamb stew I've ever eaten. The appetizers are fantastic as well. In fact, everything we tried was really god. I recommend the meat khachypuri - it's a meal in itself.

With drinks, we ate well for about $50 each. And we'll do so again, the next time we're in the area!

An unfortunate surprise after an excellent meal at Saperavi - a very nice Neo-Georgian caffe - was the message, "sorry, we cannot take your credit card, the machine is broken."

What to do?

Please use the ATM next door to get money to pay for the dinner.

What, and pay the extra charge for using my ATM card outside the network?????

Although quaint 10 years ago, such stories are not good news for a "hoping to be seen as business friendly Moscow".

What to do?

Pay the exact amount in cash, no tip. It makes everybody unhappy, so maybe Saperavi will correct their problem.

Found this restaurant from an Internet link and thought it was worth a visit. We will definitely be returning as the food was superb and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. We visited on a Friday night when lots of expats from the local offices were winding down their week with some food and drinks and it almost felt like you'd be taken out of Moscow listening to all the European voices.

Food was superb, very tasty and reasonably priced, you can enjoy your food and not worry about getting such a large bill at the end of the night which is unusual in Moscow.

Service was good, a little slow at times but it was very busy so maybe it's to be expected. Disappointingly they also had no shashlik chef working so that part of the menu was off limits on our visit. There is plenty of other choice however.
