Description: Baba Marta is the only Bulgarian restaurant in Moscow. It carries on the traditions of Mehana Bansko, a well-known Bulgarian restaurant, serving traditional food in a national setting. Generous servings and value for money are among key distinctive features of this hospitable restaurant.

Wow, was I pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I didn't want a trendy fusion-style restaurant, but a more authentic-feeling place. Thanks to reviews, I found Baba Marta. Didn't have to book as I went on a Wednesday.

The servers were patient with non-Russian speakers and the food was delicious. But not in the spiced to perfection, Top Chef kind of way. It was simple (meat, potatoes, soup) but excellently executed with enough of a twist to not be just another sausage and chips kind of meal. Can't beat the prices either! Recommended for anyone seeking an authentic Eastern European restaurant in Moscow, eating alone or with a group and looking to spend a bit less than a week's pay on a meal. (It's on a really lovely street too. Go early and walk through the park!)

In my opinion this is one of the best places to eat out in Moscow. It's not some trendy-luxurious -haute cuisine place.. Food is basic - lots of vegetables cooked in all possible ways, meat on fire, cheese and wine.
Definite Bulgarian taste - ethnic cuisine at its best. Very often ethnic restaurants suffer from kitch decore. People working in this restaurant balance successfully in keeping the place authentic, yet not falling into bad taste. Everything is wonderful! Waiters are helpful and friendly. And the food is absolutely delicious.
Last time I had duck's leg slow cooked with cabbage - tender and juicy; outstanding 'Ljutenica' - vegetable caviar made from grilled egg plants, sweet pepper, tomatoes, onion, garlic; 'Bannica' - Bulgarian pastry with feta-like cheese; and freshly made yogurt with pear and rosemary.
Together with a friend we paid about RUR 4000 (1700 for a bottle of excellent Bulgarian Sauvignon Blanc).

Not the first visit to this restaurant, and every time we get great pleasure! The portions are huge, the food is delicious, the waiters are friendly. This year, to celebrate my birthday, and it was good! I advise to try desserts of honey pear and creme caramel.

Really worth a visit, as it's not too expensive, and food is of good quality.
I was very impressed by the level of service (unusual in Moscow!).
The starters were excellent - salads, cold meat, fish, and a delicious spinach pie.
We had a main course of lamb, which was again delicious.
The wines were also good, but I don't think that we needed the vodka that we also put away!
