We arrived at 10:30pm on a Friday night and were told the kitchen was closed. This news was surprising in two ways. First, we were sure we were arriving at a pub/bar without a kitchen and second, what kind of a Moscow restaurant closes it's kitchen by 10:30pm? Isn't everything in Moscow open 24 hours??
If you can't tell by now, my review of Delicatessen is as a bar/pub. If you are lucky enough to find this place (down a dark alley and tucked away in the corner of a hidden parking lot) then you're in for a treat! My fellow travelers and I only speak English and the waitress who helped us couldn't have been more gracious. Her excitement about the bar's craft-cocktails was infectious and we stayed well into the small hours of the morning.
The bar itself was super-smoky (as are ALL places in Moscow) and the lighting was VERY BRIGHT bordering on horrendous (isn't this the case in most bars in Russia?) but the well worn tables and funky patrons made the overall vibe very welcoming. This isn't the place to find your monied oligarch or your overly made-up Russian beauty. Leave your gold chains and high heels at home but bring your thirst.
