Despite the snow and cold weather, I had a great time with Irina, our guide on the free tour. She's very knowledgeable, interesting and professional, and I learnt a lot from her guiding and stories on Moscow and Russia. In between the serious stuff, she lightens the mood with funny jokes that give you a good sense of reality as well. The walk was done at an easy pace for me, and Irina brought us indoors at times to warm up, so overall it was a nice and comfortable walk. I was so pleased with the free tour that I signed up for the Communist tour later that day.
My second tour with Irina was a private one since I was the only participant that day, so for me it was even better than the free tour! It was a beautiful walk through town with Irina showing me the various sites connected to the history of the Soviet Union. I was especially delighted with the hidden gems around Moscow that I would not have found on my own and did not expect to be related to the history of the nation.
All in all, it was an enjoyable day for me with 2 tours with Irina, and I definitely recommend other visitors to Moscow to try out their tours (at least go for the free one then you can decide if you would like the paid ones!). I would gladly join the other paid tours when I return to Moscow.
