Inefficient staff. We lost our flight and had to buy new tickets because the receptionist booked us a taxi for 8.15 and told us that it would only take us 40 minutes to arrive to the airport on a Tuesday morning. Due to traffic it took us 2 and a half hours to arrive to the airport and we lost our flight. As we were informed afterwards traffic is VERY common in Moscow at that time of the day. We could easily take the metro -train to the airport if only he had informed us that there was the slightest chance of traffic...

The room was tiny, no place to move for two persons & we could feel the springs coming through the mattress.

Writing this review as we are still here, our second night so far, and would like to praise this accommodation. The room was so nice, and the decor was fab. The communal kitchen, although small, did the job perfectly for cooking our breakfasts. The beds are so comfortable, and location wise, is excellent. The guy on reception was ever so helpful, my suitcase lock was tampered with at Manchester Airport, and I was unable to open it, but he thankfully, came to the room, and managed to save the day. Excellent service. Highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for 5 nights. The accommodation was booked by our travel company on our trans Siberian adventure. This was by far the worst out of 6 hotels we stayed in across Russia and Mongolia.
The room (number 7) was a very tiny double room. You had about a foot around the bed to walk, it made it very tight and difficult for 2 people to get showered and dressed. Ensuite "wet area" was less than ideal. The bed, well, was terrible. You couldn't see the springs but you could feel everyone of them.
One positive - the lady in charge of housekeeping was very efficient and did bags of laundry quickly for us for 100 rubles a bag. She definitely worked harder than the 2 people on the front desk.
But!!! any accommodation that advertises on the back of your room door that they will give you a 5% discount of you print out a copy of your positive review needs to make you wonder about any positive feedback on sites like TA.
This accommodation made our stay in Moscow less than ideal.

We arrived at 5 am off the train, having booked a bed for the night so that we could sleep more, the hotel had double booked so we spent the first 2 hours sitting in the stair well waiting for someone to check out and are still waiting for our refund. They also offer a 5% discount for positive reviews on Facebook, TripAdvisor etc which makes it hard to trust anyone who says they had a nice stay.

We booked this hotel as we saw it receiving good reviews in both The Guardian travel section and the Time Out guide to Moscow. After we booked we then saw some really bad reviews on here about it, so I was apprehensive about how it would be. However we had an extremely positive experience. The staff were friendly and polite, not rude as described in some of the reviews. The room was clean and pleasant. There is also free wifi. We got replenished with clean towels on the second day. Given the very central location it is extremely good value for money.

Location: excellent location, very central in a very touristy but highly convenient pedestrian street (Arbat), which has many stores, restaurants and cafes, a 24-hour supermarket (7th continent, close to Mc Donald's) and the usual street performers. Subway stations nearby and an easy walk to the Red Square and Kremlin.
Room: very clean and comfortable, recently renovated. As another reviewer pointed out, the room is very small and the ensuite bathroom (ours was room #6) is tiny, with no shower cabin, which means that when you shower you will inevitably get the entire bathroom, including toilet, wet. A tip is to remove the TP before showering. The only real issue (in summer) is that there is no AC, and it was 30 degrees outside.
Facilities: there's a small kitchen on the 3rd floor. We didn't use it but as a warning for budget backpackers, it didn't look like it had a stove or typical hostel facilities for cooking. The common WC close by was terrible.
Noise: as stated in other reviews, there's a bit of noise, mostly the AC units of several apartments and the 24-hour restaurant nearby. However, we had no trouble falling asleep even with our windows open, so it depends if you're a light sleeper.
Wifi: strong Wifi throughout the hotel
Conclusion: we really enjoyed the hotel and would recommend it. We were concerned with all the negative TA reviews, but we had a great experience. It depends a lot, as usual, on your expectations. If you're looking for a proper hotel, typical chain-standard with spacious rooms and common areas, you'll be disappointed. For us, after traveling for awhile in Russia and going through both not-spotless- clean budget hotels and good hostels but with very crowded shared bathroom, we appreciated very much the small yet clean and comfortable Bulgakov. Although the price seemed expensive at first, we found it good value when compared to other accommodations in expensive Moscow and St Petersburg.

We arranged to be picked up from the airport as we were arriving at 3am, we confirmed with them the day before but when we arrived our taxi was nowhere to be seen. When we finally arranged a taxifrom the airpot (which we really didnt want to do as we have friends that got into trouble with a dodgy driver doing this) it took us an hour to find it as the entrance is on a different street to the address given with no signs.we then spent half an hour outside ringing the bell until a very grumpy man opened the door outraged to be woken up rather than apologetic about our situation. The next day the lady on reception was extremely rude to us, tried to make us pay for the taxi and when i explained wed been left in the lurch she simply said 'maybe he was sleeping'.its quite a sweet hostel in a central location even if the rooms are tiny, it could be nice if they employed helpful staff. We dealt with a lady called Olga before we arrived who seemed very helpful but we only had grumpy mean staff when there. They continued to be rude throughout our stay, the lady telling us through her mean little mouth and raised eyebrows that she was 'busy' when we tried to check out then shouting us back when we decided to go have breakfast upstairs until she wasnt busy. Try somewhere else.
