PROS: Stayed at this hotel to be near relatives staying at the more pricey Cosmos Hotel (about two to three blocks away). Hotel is new with very comfortable and relatively quiet rooms. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I was surprised that they also have an evening maid service. The room has mini-frig, safe, flat screen TV and free WiFi. The bathroom has a hair dryer with toiletries (bar soap, bath gel, shampoo, lotion). The breakfast was surprisingly abundant with a sufficient variety for everyone (e.g., porridge, bread, toast, meat, pancakes, quiche, eggs, fruit, vegetables, meat, cereal, yogurt). There are a couple of grocery markets within 2 blocks of the hotel. The metro stop is about a 10 minute walk. City center sights are easily accessed by Metro.
CONS: Difficult to locate the front of the hotel which faces the interior of a city block and is accessed through an unmarked/gated driveway. Room fan/air conditioner was not working. The room was stuffy so we had to leave the window open. Since our room faced the front of the hotel, exterior noise wasn't too much of a problem. Also, the reception staff copies each passport and immigration card during registration. They are not very diligent about making sure the immigration card is returned to each person. I noticed mine wasn't returned and ask for it - it was left in the photocopier. My sister wasn't as lucky. She didn't notice her immigration card was missing until we arrived in St. Petersburg. She had to pay DHL to express mail it to St. Petersburg, as the hotel didn't take care of sending it to her. NOTE: This immigration card has to stay with you at all times. You can't check-in to any hotels or leave the country without it.
