“A little small, but friendly”
Reviewed July 12, 2012

Choco hostel was a little hard to find. The best thing to do is get the metro to Tverskaya station (name looks like "Tbeckar" in Russian). Exit onto the main road (also called Tbekcar) and walk straight up it (north on a map). When you reach the Intercontinental Hotel, turn right onto the street just after it. Keep heading down the left hand side of that road until you get to a park then you will see the big black door in the block after the park on your left. Buzz number 4.
Not hard once you've found it the first time.

The staff were friendly (in a Russian kind of way =p) and the place was neat. Sadly there was no hot water working in the main bathroom when we were there and the 2nd bathroom had quite a small, dingy shower. The usual bathroom for guests was nicer though.

There were decent lockers in the rooms and they provided clean sheets and a towel etc.

The hostel is located on a quiet street so it's easy to sleep at night, and the hostel itself, when we were there, was also fairly quiet.

Location is great. A 10-15 minute walk down the road to the Kremlin and Red Square =) lots of cheap, but Russian-style food nearby,

Basically, it's a small hostel - don't expect anything more. But it felt friendly, safe and had dynamite hot chocolate in the mornings.

It may be a bit hard to find but once you are there it is a pleasant stay, very clean and with a nice breakfast for a hostel. It is close to subway station and somewhat central and the price is ok for Moscow.

Right in the middle of central Moscow, the chocolate hostel is a fantastic place to park yourself during your stay in Moscow. A very clean, chic and modern place to stay with servings of fantastic breakfast early morning. The hot chocolate is especially good. The people at the hostel are very fun and friendly with a lot of enthusiasm. The hostel has a lot of international travelers making it a good place to interact with people and make common plans for Moscow.
Overall this is the place to stay in Moscow.

Room Tip: All rooms are equally great.

Difficult to find from website directions. The road you need is the one at the intercontinental hotel, under a sort of bridge.
Good welcome, facilities fine. Free basic breakfast. Room quite crowded. Not too noisy. Only 2 bathrooms. Staff helpful. Would stay there again.

It was difficult to find the entrance, there was a big black door with several door bells. We pushed one in the hope it was the right one. Someone opened on remote. We had to pass 3 other doors in this old dark, depressing building.

There was a girl, she was not very friendly... she only acted friendly and you can tell the difference.

We had to take off our shoes and use some plastic room shoes. I don't like that because who knows who had worn those things before me.

We asked if we could see the room, she reacted like we were crazy and said something like: "I cannot image how you can not like the room, but ok". We looked and passed a toilet and a bathroom with semitransparent windows in it opposite the kitchen and up a small stairs. There was another toilet and bathroom opposite our room.

We looked at it briefly, it was late, we were tired so we had to stay. she forced us to pay for 2 nights, because you have to cancel 24 hours in advance. We were not happy with it, but it was pay or leave... so we payed.

The room was awfull, badly lit, very bad mattresses and synthetic thin duvets... the poorest quality. The door also had semi transparent glass, so every time someone used the toilet at night the light shined in our room. And they forgot to put it out, the "staff" didn't turn it off.

In the morning we could get breakfast in the kitchen, there where some other guest but no staff to show us where to get what. There was some old bread and jucky butter. We didn't eat, we did not even know where to get it and what we could get. It was all sticky, and old and ahh... total crap we wanted to leave immediately.

We asked if we could get the money back from the second night because it did not meet our expectations, but the girl was very unwilling, so we demanded. She said that we were threatening her and mean to her. We left because we did not want to waste anymore time in this awfull depressing place.

The "staff" (it's a girl sitting behind low desk at a computer playing on facebook not helping guest at all) is terrible. Beds and room are terrible, breakfast... just horrific.

I can't understand how you can like this place, a hostel is different than a hotel, but people are people and need some comfort.

Room Tip: stay away from this place

A really cosy and affordable place to spend your days in Moscow. Small, with few showers and toilets but worked well. Small common area but easier to socialise. I made friends, hung out with them, drank at night together. Satisfactory free breakfast. Clean. Comfortable beds. Close to the city centre, I enjoyed the walk there. Free wi-fi and a hostel computer. Friendly staff, sat talking with us in common area. Would stay again.

Great location for exploring Moscow. But the beds are uncomfortable, there is a tiny common area that makes it hard to unwind, hang out and/or be social.
