“Not bad”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

Advantages: very good location (close not only to the underground but also to Red Square and 3 railway stations), small quite and calm street, well-equiped rooms (water, bathrobe, footwear brush, even sewing kit), diversified breakfast.
Disadvantages: very expensive even for this location, single room was tiny.
Total: not bad but consider pricing before booking.

The only good point for this hotel is its location.

As for the bad points:
- INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE for this hardly-3 star hotel;
- outdated rooms;
- poor service (no complimentary tea, very bad shampoo, rude personnel, also nobody speaks English there);
- No air-conditioner;
- poor breakfast

Unfortunately, they make money just for the fact that they are located in the center of such an expensive city like Moscow.

The worst weekend-stay i have ever had.

I stayed here in September during a business trip. The hotel was a quick walk to the office. That is where the high marks end. As other reviewers have noted, none of the staff speak English. With limited Russian language skills, I was able to communicate with front desk and restaurant staff through gestures. One woman at the front desk was friendly, but most of the staff were not only not personable they simply ignored your presence (perhaps to avoid having to play charades to communicate? I can't say that I blame them - it's not fun.).

The room itself was pretty sparse, although clean. There was wifi, but it was so slow that it was basically useless. The last night, around 2am, a group of Russians gathered in the elevator lobby outside all of the rooms to drink, smoke, laugh and talk loudly. Fortunately, I had to get up early for a flight, so I didn't bother reporting it to the front desk.

As I mentioned, the proximity to the office was the redeeming quality. Otherwise, I would not recommend staying here for non-Russian speakers.

Expensive hotel with unpolite-UNFRIENDLY employees,nobody speaks english and as concerns the service very bad!The breakfast is very poor when something finishes you have to wait a lot till they refill it,no quantity or variaty and quality bad, even the cake they give you one slice at the buffet!Service to laugh.
Only the room service is good but for the amount of money you are paying is not enough!Possitive the Metro station which is near!
I don't recomend this hotel.

This hotel is trying very hard to be a cool, classy business hotel, but falls short. There is no wireless internet except in the lobby and restaurant, and even there it was unacceptably slow and hard to get a link to. The English language ability of the staff is mostly poor. The bar is dead at night and often simply closed down. The location is a very sleepy section of Moscow with no restaurants nearby; the only reasons to select this hotel would be either if you get a good price and don't mind a long walk or taking a taxi, or if you are visiting the Lukoil offices. If you return to the hotel late at night you will have to bang on the glass door for a while until someone comes to let you in; it is locked at night and your room key doesn't get you in.

The Ulansaya was a nice surprise for us, considering that it's not mentioned in the tourist books. It is in the city center - though not in the heart of it - and is only 5-10 minutes away from the nearest metro stop. We strolled up the main avenue from the hotel and in 25 minutes or less we were at the Red Square.

Only some of the staff speak English and there is always a security guard on duty. It's true that the menu is only in Russian, which we found not so tourist-friendly. (Having the menu in English and Western alphabet would not only be beneficial to an American or Englishman, but to any non-Russian speaking person wanting to visit this interesting city. English is the alternative language of choice when visiting a foreign land. Sorry!)

The hotel is in a sort of business neighborhood, with a small delapidated chapel across from it and a children's school on the next block. Basically a quiet area.

We absolutely loved that amazing big band that performs on Monday! Top-notch!
