I was outside the cathedral Sunday morning beginning my tourist walks around Timisoara. The cathedral was full with all kinds of people, Romanians, tourists, poor, rich, young, older etc. The place is full of energy giving a meeting point to the local society. Being in a big park is the perfect place to relax and admire the temple.

I visit this church from time to time just to admire it. Once inside, you'll hear that all the noise of the city is gone and you can have a peaceful and quiet moment with yourself. It's open most of the time during the day; by night you can only admire how it is illuminated.

You simply can't miss the Orthodox Cathedral in Timisoara placed in the very center of the town. Its bright and interesting collours - green and gold yellow - will shine in the summer sun and light up the grey of winter. It's opening took place in 1946 in the presence of King Michael I of Romania who recently attended the Easter holy ceremony in the Cathedral.
If you visit it you must also know that on the Cathedral's stairs, during the Romanian Revolution in December 1989, lots of people - mostly children - were shot and killed when the doors of the Cathedral mysteriously closed and blocked their escape inside. A monument in the shape of a cross located in the front will forever remind of the innocent blood shed those days. Say a prayer in their memory if you reach this place.

You cannot miss this unique monument if I may call it. They are renovating the front steps right now so expect a little bit of mess :P

You'll love this cathedral, it's a unique architecture and decoration. It's one of the first things you see in the city centre and it's a marking spot for all tourists. you should also see the place at night, there's a light that makes the cathedral look very romantic.
