We booked the Rin hotel with the express purpose of being near the airport on the day we were to fly out of Bucharest. This hotel is ideal for this purpose. The hotel provides hourly shuttle service free of charge to the airport . Make sure you book this service at the reception desk.
The hotel has very friendly staff. Ms.Cristina Toros who had managed our reservation came down personally from her office to invite us in to their hotel. The rooms were clean and large with comfortable beds and the bathrooms clean and good.
The breakfast spread was exhaustive and sumptuous the best we have seen so far in Bucharest.
The hotel deserves a five star rating if all the above considerations are taken into account. However there are several matters that make me give it only four stars.
1. Air conditioning. The hotel did say they have an air conditioner. This was not working . We had booked one single and one double and the AC was not working on both the rooms. The day being hot the room was warm and very uncomfortable. On informing the front office a mechanic came over to inspect and after about an hour we got a call saying that the central A/C had been switched off because the season was now officially winter. That sounded like an absurd excuse for either saving electricity or bad maintenance. Winter nor summer the room was hot and uncomfortable and required an air conditioner
We had to open the window to let in fresh air inside and while that helped an annoying street light on the opposite building kept blinking right through the night.Plus of course the traffic noise added to the discomfort.
2.The second problem was lack of information. Apparently the hotel has two restaurants. A continental restaurant and a traditional restaurant. No one seems to think it was important to inform the guests of this facility. At lunch time we sat in the continental section because that was the only one adjacent to the lobby and we believed it was the only place to eat. The waitress who appeared to be a trainee could not help us when we kept asking her why a hotel in Bucharest was not offering some Romanian dishes. ( She could not understand English but our friend , a Romanian spoke to her in her native tongue )The grilled chicken in this restaurant was far below standard and we decided we will
not have our dinner there that evening.
At dinner time however we came to know through hearsay that the hotel had another restaurant offering traditional food. We located it after asking around and here we had one of the best traditional meals that day.
The hotel management must install a board at the lobby to clearly indicate the restaurants available in the hotel for the benefit of guests who are new to the place.
The discomfort of a non AC room and the food in the continental section of the hotel would have clearly made this hotel an average one however the superb rooms and the excellent breakfast spread and the quality of the traditional restaurant elevates it to very good level.
Without the negatives I had mentioned above it would be an excellent hotel. nevertheless we would surely come again.
