“Good, traditional”
Reviewed May 22, 2014

Like many restaurants in Cluj this has inside and outside sections. The outdoor area is small and some of the tables, not mine, are under a canopy. In May the weather is warm but I got caught in rain on my second visit. There is a good menu featuring mostly traditional Hungarian or Romanian dishes. The helpings are large and on my first visit I was unable to finish my main course after the Goulash. A good wine list with a few wines by the glass. Pleasant staff with adequate English. Good toilet facilities, and very clean.

“An introduction to Romania”
Reviewed May 10, 2014

First night on first visit to Romania. Peaceful court yard and glass of good, chilled, local, sav blanc after a long journey. Took the plunge and went traditional. Bean and smoked sausage soup to start accompanied by raw onion salad - it has to be tried! Stuffed cabbage leaves for a main served with sour cream and chillis. Well worth the experiment with new to me cuisine.

“Delicious traditional romanian food”
Reviewed March 9, 2014

We were looking for romanian food and Roata offers you the possibility of trying exactly what you feel like: some of the dishes are "complete": main and side combination, as in any other restaurant; but you can make your own dish too: choose the main and the side one apart because they are separated on the menu,
They also have big dishes to share by several people and try a little bit of everything of the local food.
Nice atmosphere, decorated with traditional romanian stuff, including the waiter's uniforms, and cheap for the ones that we think in euros: main and side dish, water and dessert for 2 people around 20 euro (80-90 lei).
But take cash, they don't accept cards.

“Great food and atmosphere”
Reviewed February 14, 2014

We are locals and we eat here often because the food is very good and the owners are often there to surprise you with small gifts. For example, the water is free, the cream for the soups is also free, they give you free appatizers (traditional food), sometimes a shot of tuica (local alcohol beverage).
The atmosphere is excellent, traditional music and great serving. The girls always have a nice recommendations for you and they smile often. For me is a plus to have the waiter smile and be nice.
We eat here either the menu of the day which consists in a soup, a second course and a dessert, or a food from the a la carte menu. I rarely give five stars for fold because I'm picky, but this one does deserve their five stars.

PS. If you can't find a parking place, you leave the car on the street in front of the restaurant, the keys at the bar, and the owners will take care of it if it needs to be moved. It's a great aspect because the restaurant in downtown and there are a few parking places.

So, when you're visiting put Restaurant Roata on your itinerary. You won't regret.

“Nice quiet place”
Reviewed December 17, 2013

If you want to eat traditional transylvanian food this is the place to be.
The service is good, their food is very good, it felt like home cooked, no loud music, reasonable prices.
I would recommend this place to all who are visiting Cluj Napoca. It is a bit hidden in an alley but its worth finding it.
