We stayed here one night as part of a tour of the Balkans.
A former communist hotel greatly and carefully renovated and apart from the vast entrances and atrium so beloved of the Soviet era one wouldn't have known.
Located just a few minutes walk from the centre of Cluj.
There is only free wi-fi in the reception/lobby which was a real pain as everyone was in there trying to access emails and half of them were smoking. There was also some event on with DEAFENING music :-(
Public rooms STINK of smoke :-(
Our room 315 was decorated in a rich deep purple - chairs in velvet and carpet to match along with curtains. Extremely comfortable huge bed and windows that actually opened properly for fresh air.
Very good bathroom with the best and most comprehensive array of toiletries including folding toothbrushes!
Towels were very white and plentiful but a little hard.
We ate in the hotel at night - the meal was acceptable. I didn't care for the soup but then I'm not keen on greasy hot water with vegetables floating in it. Others liked it.
I had a sesame chicken schnitzel which was nice with mashed potato and fresh side salad. Dessert was a delightful and tasty blackcurrant tart.
I felt someone had smoked in our bedroom but maybe it was smoke clinging to our hair and clothes from public areas.
Romania needs to get this sorted out if it wants more western European and North American tourists as this smoking in public rooms and restaurants is unacceptable in the 21st century.
If the Pullman Bucharest can make itself smoke free (with a partitioned smoking area in the steakhouse) then the rest of the hotels and restaurants could try and legislation is needed.
Breakfast was very mediocre - not impressed. Why stick bacon in the scrambled egg and ruin the vegetarian hot breakfast staple?
Would I stay here again? No I don't think so.
