“Good place”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

We spent a night in the Transilvania hotel after booking it in the same evening. This was after we booked Sunny Hill hotel & when arrived there noticed there is a huge party going on while the staff did not bother to let us know when we did the booking.

Anyway, the hotel is is well located, just in the centre, has its own private parking and was actually cheaper than the initial choice.

We took an apartment, which is rather large, with nice tall rooms. The double bed is ok, but the couch not great. So I would rather recommend two double rooms if you travel more than 3.

There is a bit of noise there (being located at the main street) but luckily the apartment also has windows on the quiet side.

Breakfast was good, staff was OK, though as we arrived rather late we did not interact much with them.

Overall experience was good, so I will definitely consider this place again when back to Cluj.

This hotel has a perfect location from most of the things to do and see in Cluj. Behind the facade on street level there's a whole inner courtyard where the hotel is located. The place looks brand new but we guessed it must have been there for some time. It has a safe parking place in the back. The attitude of the staff is something to be improved. It is sufficient but kind hostmanship is not the label we would stick on it. More glum, surly and uninterested. You feel a paying customer rather than a guest. Summarized you can sleep well here in a clean room, you can park your car safe, you can shower with hot water, have a simple breakfast and walk towards the sites, restaurants and cafe's nearby. All very convenient but once you left this hotel it will not be in your heart and memory for a long time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with air condition. Not all rooms have that standard. It is an extra 15RON but worth...

Very near the town centre and safe parking, these were the two parameters for choosing this hotel. The lovely terrace, the friendly staff and the prices were an added bonus. The bed just OK though, I would have appreciated an extra inch in both directions.

I stayed at this hotel in May this year and it was a very pleasant experience. We were in transit to another part of the region but wanted to stay a couple of days in Cluj. The U-shaped building has a courtyard that is just charming for breakfast and other meals and especially drinks. The rooms are small but well equipped and the WiFi works better than in many American hotels. It is located in the old part of the city so near historic buildings, piazzas full of young people and bars, local artisans with hand made products typical of the Transylvania region. It is also right next door to a huge well equipped supermarket where travelers will find familiar products as well as local Romanian specialties. It also has a small parking lot. The only negative is that there is no elevator to the second floor so if you have a heavy suitcase, it's a drag.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the street have a better view.

We stayed in a mini-suite room for 2 nights. There was no a/c. There was a fridge, hairdryer, and shampoo provided. The bathroom had a very small shower where the water drained on to the floor (seems like this happened at all the hotels we stayed at on our trip). Staff was nice and spoke English. There was great lighting in the room, nice furniture and a comfortable bed. Easy walking to the train depot.

I walked about 1km from the train station and this was the first hotel that I found. It looked OK so I booked in. It was 7.30am and I would leave at 3.30am next day. Was nice clean, comfortable room. I could not connect to the internet with either my i-phone or i-pad and the guy on reception was less than helpful. I returned to my room and tried my Laptop, this also could no gain Internet access. I went back to reception and 2 others were having same problems. For this reason I spent most of my time away from my room eating and drinking in cafes and bars where I could connect.
I did not like his attitude that as it was FREE, it was not a problem if it was not available.
Overall nice place but unfortunately I will not return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask if the internet is working first, then try it. Courtyard can be noisy late in the evening, so c...

After a week staying with friends in Romanian village, in itself a very nice and new experience, we booked into the Hotel Transilvania in Cluj-Napoca for the weekend. The hotel was old fashion elegance with friendly and helpful staff. We had a very large suite with sitting room, large bedroom and bathroom. All a little jaded but clean. Lovely courtyard area where meals and drinks could be enjoyed. Very reasonably priced by UK standards.

Would thoroughly recommend both this hotel and Romania. Try to experience the village life if you can.
