“the breakfast was dissapointing”
Reviewed July 21, 2014

We went one morning for the 7£ breakfast the view was nice but unfortunately we were still hungry afterwards. We only received a small glass of orange juice a coffee and small pastries. A glass of water couldn't even be added to the package.

“Great atmosphere, friendly staff, tasty local food”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

Stumbled across this restaurant-come tapas bar sited on the beach near our hotel. First visit, was taken in by the as much as you can eat creole se menu. This is usually a turn off for us, but we could see and smell the wide variety of freshly cooked local dished in their casseroles bubbling over a wood fire, from the entrance and this was a good opportunity to taste more than one thing at a good price. We chose a menu that included (each): a rum punch, 1/4 bottle wine creole tapas starters, as much as you like from the main courses and dessert all for 37Euros. There were at least six carri dishes, several staples, and at least 6 wok dishes too for main course. For dessert they had run out of fruit but offered us ice cream which much have been local because I had 'goyavier' - delicious. Another night we fancied just one dish so we decided to go to the beach bar part and had a nice chlled local beer and 1) Fruit de la mer a la plancha (succulent squid) , mussels and legine (local meaty white fsh), 2) Viande a la plancha: duck, chicken and beef with mushrooms also very tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive.

“Great bar and great food”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

We ate here twice while on our honeymoon on Réunion Island. On the first night we went into the bar for a drink and to try the buffet and ended up staying in the bar and having the tapas. The bar staff were very good and friendly and the service was excellent including all the cocktails! We were very impressed with the choice and the quality of the food especially the brie fondue and the meats that we decided to come back for our last night and again we were not disappointed. Thank you for two good evenings while we were away.

“Great location, shame about the food”
Reviewed January 3, 2010

Nice location right on the beach overlooking the lagoon.
Quality of ingredients was unforgivably poor - my mozarella from my tomato and mozzarella salad to start could have been used to sole a shoe. The prawn starters were so foul that it was a blessing the portion was so small. The Kangaroo + Steak were tough as well. The only 2 people out of our party of 10 who were happy with their food were the ones who had the Asia style tuna as their main. The staff were reasonably attentive. The food would have been awful regardless of the price, but the fact that they charge so much added insult to injury as there really is no excuse on buying such low quality produce on their mark ups. Other restaurants in Reunion manage much better so it is obviously a ploy by the owners to maximise profit and not care whether you return (or not in our case) - they can get away with it i guess because their location lures an endless supply of tourists in. Go for a drink if you must but don t bother with the food.

“A real let down!”
Reviewed November 7, 2008

This restaurant/bar has a fairly nice location on the beach at L’Hermitage-les-Bains, unfortunately this was the only plus point during our visit!

Out of character we ordered starters, mine was a vegetarian salad and my husbands’ choice was the mixed 15 piece Creole selection. Not the most difficult or time consuming of dishes you’d imagine, but over 45 minutes later we were still waiting!

When eventually the dishes did arrive my salad could have easily fed 3 people – now I’m usually all for big portions but there was no indication on the menu that the salad was this big and as it was a starter I didn’t want to eat most of an iceberg lettuce etc and have no room left for the main dish! My husband’s Creole starter was a selection of deep fried samosas, spring rolls etc but unfortunately there weren’t 15 pieces and what he was given was fairly tasteless!

Neither of these dishes should have taken over 45 minutes to prepare and we were annoyed to see that other guests that had arrived after us were being served before us! However we soon realised why this was the case – one of the “specials” on the menu was a miniature BBQ delivered to your table, with a selection of various meats or fish that you could then barbeque yourself. Obviously as the chef didn’t need to actually cook any of these dishes, they were quicker to be served!

Unfortunately after disappointing starters, our main courses were even more of a let down. I had ordered the swordfish and my husband had ordered tuna. Both pieces of fish were about 3 inches thick (if not more!) and had only been shown a griddle pan before being put on our plate! Now we know that especially with tuna some chefs like to leave fish pink in the middle but this was ridiculous – there was at least 2½ inches of completely raw and cold flesh! Once again we wished that we had ordered the individual BBQ as then we would have been served quicker and the meat/fish would have been cooked properly!

The only plus at the end of this meal was that the small group of stray cats that had looked at us longingly throughout the meal got a real treat of swordfish and tuna just before we left!

This is not somewhere that I would go back to or recommend to friends!
