“Special Dinner for Easter”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

We were away from home for Easter and wanted somewhere special to go for dinner. We took a drive and ended up at the Aurora Inn. We arrived without a reservation on Easter Sunday but they were very accomidating and we had an amazing dinner. Everyone enjoyed the dinner and desert. The Inn is beautiful and the dining room was just lovely and it looked like the outdoor deck would be great in the summer to enjoy a nice meal overlooking the lake. Thanks - it was great.

“Extremely Overpriced Decent Food”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

I'll start by saying that the ambiance was excellent and the waitperson friendly and certainly competent. I noticed that she properly served the oldest woman in attendance first, followed by the rest of the women, followed by me, the only man. I've eaten at enough fine dining establishments to recognize proper service when it is delivered, and it was.

That being said, the food, while tasty enough, was nothing extraordinary and was, in my opinion, very over-priced. My beef tenderloin was served with fingerling potatoes instead of with the potato dauphinoise it would ordinarily be served with. (Our waitperson had informed us of this change to the menu before I ordered.) But the fingerling potatoes were quite small, and there were only five or six of them. There was far less actual potato there than there would have been in even a medium sized baked potato.

My wife opted for the braised short ribs. The portion size for those was also small, and she thought the ribs were not nearly tender enough.

Both my daughters opted for the goat cheese gnocchi, at $21 per dish. These were probably the greatest pricing travesty of the night. Each dish had about eight to ten small gnocchi. They would have been fine as a $9 appetizer. But a $21 main dish? No way!

Note that none of the main dishes included so much as a salad. We paid $8 for an overpriced Panzanella salad that should have cost $5 at most, and $12 for some pretzel bites in melted cheese. That would have been an excellent appetizer at $6 or even $7, but $12? For $12 there should have been twice as much cheese and twice as many pretzel bites.

We ordered two desserts that were decent, and were somewhat more reasonably priced at, I believe, $7 or $8 each.

The Aurora Inn is really the only high-end restaurant in Aurora, and Aurora is pretty isolated. I feel like they know that, so they really gouge their customers on the prices of their menu items. If you don't mind over-paying for a meal, the food was fine. It wasn't exceptional by any means, but it was OK. I just felt incredibly ripped off based on what was provided.

I will not return.

“Delish with awesome presentation”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Not a bad table in the place. Great food proudly prepared using ingredients obtained locally. My husband had the scallops and said they were to die for. I had halibut, which for some reason, is not offered often in this area. Yummmmm

“Great Atmosphere & Food”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Brunch here is always superb! It nearly feels lke you have the place to yourselves due to the way the tables and rooms are arranged. We are not rushed, the service impeccable, and the food selections all tempting and tasty. We go here happily and always feel it a special treat! They also have a grand gallery of very impressive paintings through out the beautiful inn. And a yummy bakery/store conveniently located next door that offers food and baked goods served at the inn.
