“All a Facade”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

At first glance, as you look at it from the street, you fall under the illusion that this could be a good hotel. The façade, at least, is grand and elegant. And it stops there.

While service is ok and friendly (as you would expect in the Philippines), the rooms are in a sad state. Enter the room, and you will worry about walking barefoot on the dirty, stained carpet. There's just a dirty, dusty atmosphere in general. One of our colleagues had to change rooms because of a rodent problem. Turn on the ancient, CRT TV and all you will get is static.

The bathrooms are old and are home to a couple of mosquitoes. The only good thing to say about the bathroom is that they at least have hot and cold water running water, although you would not want to run a bath in their bathtub.

If you are tempted to have a massage, resist it immediately, as the massage service is amateur and horrible. It does not help that the room does not give you a relaxing vibe in the first place. So this is certainly not a hotel that lends itself to comfort and leisure.

But if you are here for work, and you want to catch up on email, rooms do not have wi fi, and they will charge you for hourly access. And if you want to work out in their 'gym,' all you will see is a sad cramped room with cheap and old equipment.

So, to recap, it looks good at first glance, sells itself cheap, and is going on in years. There's probably an analogy here, but politeness prevents one from mentioning it.

We stayed in this hotel for 9 nights holiday/business purposes. The staffs are incredibly helpful and friendly, but their efficiency does not coincide for what a 4 stars hotel should offer. They definitely needs more training and know how about the gastronomy services. Our room was spacious and it was serviced but seems to me that the staffs are not aware that taking the used cutlery out of the guest rooms are part of the service. The amnesties such as the swimming pool and the bedroom bathroom especially looked dilapidated and tired. There were refurbishment done but looks like more remedied rather than lifting the standard. Generally the place needs a total make-over. This is so far the oldest hotel in the area and a great venue for conference but more to the locals. The breakfast seemed to be the same all throughout the 9 days stay in which my husband (who is a European) refused to eat after 5 days. The food are more centred to local palates and even bread are all 'sweetened' and quite frustrating that you cannot find the normal non-sweetened infused bread. The hotel have a car hire facilities which is very convenient, cost around 2,000 pesos (around 30 £) for a 10 hours hire with driver. They are giving you an option to fuel it for 1,500 pesos, I choose to fuel it myself and only paid around 800 pesos for the whole day drive, any extra hours are charged to 200 pesos/hour which is a very good value for an air condition transport. Taxi are very convenient and good accessibility, just informed the concierge on the gate and they will order you a taxi from the street straight to the hotel main entrance. There are some good walking distance seafood restaurant in the area such as the 'Ocean City' which has some live music in the evening, cheap and high quality seafood, all in for a couple for just under 10£. Opposite of the hotel is a very cheap Thai foot and body massage 'NUat THai' which one can have 30 minutes foot massage and 1 hour full body massage all for amazingly £6.

Room Tip: We have an executive room which was sort of alright and for 10£ get a supreme room which is situated...

The hotel itself is maintained, the rooms likewise. However, budget rooms are really not worth staying. Since the hotel's location is great and you really want to stay for a night or two, choose the Standard room and up. Don't stay at the Budget Room/s.

Sarabia Manor is one of the oldest hotel in iloilo City. It is big in area, many rooms, good for conference and different food outlets. The facade looks great, impressive lobby by the standard of Iloilo, but rooms are run down and old. Staff are very helpful and friendly but that is all. The rooms are big, room air conditioner are split type, but noisy and old. Beds are clean but old. Bath room are slightly bigger with bathtub, but the fixture handle are wobbling and about to give way. They have an old television set which still shows good television program. No room safe, Lobby wifi is slow and room wifi comes at a modest fee. By the way, I had to change room because my telephone wiring was not connected when I wanted to call the operator. Overall, this was the grand old hotel of Iloilo, its lobby is still most impressive and businessman always meet here due to it being in the business district of Iloilo.

Don't be fooled by a nice looking lobby and or the pool. The rooms are run down and poorly maintained. Bathrooms(we stayed in two separate rooms)are outdated, dirty and rusty. Service? How would you feel coming back to your room at 9pm tired and the room was not cleaned? And don't make a mistake mentioning you got reservations from agoda.com because customer service went downhill from there. To summed it all up, it boils down to poor management. A disgrace to a booming and progressive city. Stay away!

I had my first stay in this hotel a year ago and unknowingly I had the chance to stay in this same hotel again last month. This is an old hotel in Iloilo but aside from the old rooms they also built new rooms which have higher rates than the old ones. I was booked in the old room, it was a clean and big room. Airconditioning is working well, it has TV and basic amenities are provided n the room.
