“Not what i expected”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

Its my second time in this hotel. The first when it was during soft opening and now during a conference. Lets start with the good stuff. At least there are now grown trees thus it is a bit cooler. Second is the noodle - "sotanghon" . Its the best i have ever had so i had several servings and it was good as it was offered from breakfast and our merienda. Third rooms are still large and clean. The not so good experience is the massage, i had a bony lady do my massage and it is not a good experience. The method needs improvement considering the price you pay for this. secondly because it is peak season the buffet breakfast is chaotic so i suggest you eat early. They dont have shuttle services going to the city, unlike other hotels. Hope they offer that.

Room Tip: For those availing buffet breakfast, eat early as May is peak season.

Dear ann5721,

Thank you for rating our sotanghon dish as the best you’ve ever had.

We are sorry to hear that your spa experience wasn't satisfactory. Upon investigating your case we learned that your treatment was given by a relatively inexperienced masseuse. Though we wish you had spoken up while still at the spa so we could have offered a replacement treatment, if you will be kind enough to write us (you didn't leave your email when you checked in, but we have identified you) we would be happy to offer a gift certificate for your next spa visit.

Sincerely,

we were a family of 4 adults and 1 child, We stayed in the family room which is really large enough for the 5 of us, since we have a child who loves to run around and play i can say that plantation bay is the perfect place for that because there are so many things that you can do inside that is child friendly, youll never get bored. during our 4night stay in plantation we availed their whaleshark adventure which is a must try, they gave us our own car service back and forth to place and excellent packed lunch youll even get to see the country side of cebu. its worth every penny with the service that they will give you. Though the food inside is costly for average persons like us but if we will think about the quality it is worth it. And also they gave us a free coral reef adventure because of the duration of our stay w/c is also a must try you'll get to see the fishes upclose and get to feed them. Overall we enjoyed our stayed in plantation bay and will definitely recommend to everyone who wants to relax and enjoy.

Dear Kath S,

Plantation Bay is the only 5-star resort in Cebu to offer the Swimming with the Whale Sharks Package, and we're happy you got to experience this rare adventure.

We're pleased that you found the resort child-friendly, and that everyone in your family enjoyed your 4-night stay with us.

Thank you for the kind review.

We were guests at the wedding of our friends' daughter. Our spirits were lifted as soon as we entered the place. Venue for the wedding ceremony was at the beach. The ambiance was elegant and classy but relaxed and friendly. We have so-so expectations as far as hotel foods go, but the reception cocktails and subsequent banquet was exceptionally tasty and wonderfully presented. The hotel staff service all throughout the event was superbly efficient yet unobtrusive. This was indeed one unforgettable wedding experience. We will definitely be back.

Dear Bernie-in-Cebu,

Like you, most wedding guests at Plantation Bay rave about our charming seaside setting. Thank you for taking the time to share how the hotel's food and banquet arrangements surpassed your expectations, and for the kind comments about our service and staff.

We look forward to your next visit.

I would have been scared to wander outside the hotel. The streets outsdie are poor and I imagine dangerous.

Once inside the place was like paradise. Private beeches and pools everywhere.

Food and drink expensive and the hotel full of Korean guests which means the food is not all to European tastes

Family friendly,

Dear Intcopiers,

Thank you for your glowing words about the quality of Plantation Bay and in particular our water-related scenery and activities.

We would take exception, however, to your remark that the areas surrounding us are "poor, and might be dangerous". With all due respect, no one who has been to Phuket, Boracay, or Bali would share your opinion. It is perhaps true that there are some poor people who live nearby us, just as it is true that there are some poor people who live near the Pierre in New York, and next door to Canary Wharf in London. The difference is that in New York or London, you can get mugged, whereas in the area surrounding Plantation Bay and within a 1 kilometer radius, to the best of our knowledge no guest has ever been assaulted or personally harmed in our entire 17 years of operation.

Our food is of the highest order, and will appeal to all who are experienced international travelers. Like Neiman-Marcus or Wal-Mart, Harrod's Food Hall in London or the Farmer's Market in Los Angeles, some of our prices will seem high, while others will seem cheap, to any particular person. For every dish that might be considered "expensive", there are four more that are moderately-priced or downright cheap by almost any standard.

Our clientele consists of Japanese, Filipinos, Koreans, Europeans, and Americans, with a smattering of Russians and Latin Americans. Your warning about our food "not being to European tastes" is not well-justified and may give the wrong impression. Just last week, a group of wealthy friends - a Frenchman from Cannes, a gentleman from Hong Kong, and a well-known Filipino businessman (each and every one of them with a net worth in 9-10 figures in US Dollars) got off their 130-foot, 4-deck blue-water yacht explicitly to have lunch at Plantation Bay. They and their wives pronounced our food delicious, and to prove it, every single plate went back to the kitchen looking like a dog had licked it clean.

Stayed 1 week (April 6th onwards) with family (group of 16).There was plenty of things for children to do to keep them entertained. The food was great, there were a few problems but nothing major. The timing of the meals. Entrees brought out the same time as mains or a few people not receiving entrees until the rest of the group is eating mains and few times meals were cold.
Savannah restaurant needs a drastic menu change, it is a cafe not a restaurant. The burger is extremely bland and boring, with no added extras. The hot dogs don't have a choice of toppings and you got a huge sausage on a mini bun.
Cooking with the chef was fantastic, will be cooking the dish at home soon.
Snorkelling - the fish were awesome - not much coral - but we are spoilt in Australia with our coral.
Massage centre was awesome - spent a lot of time there.
Housekeeping needs to mop the floors. Our 1 year old had black feet from the 2 bedroom suite floor. When I asked housekkeping if they could mop the floor they put a rag on the floor and swished it around in random spots with their foot.
Other than that we enjoyed our stay in 4 different room styles. I would go back.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the lagoon have awesome views.

We have been to this resort for so many times it has been one of our favorite. It is true that is is a not so cheap resort, that is why its tag as luxury.

HOTEL is 30 mins away from the airport and they have a shuttle to pick and drop you off all through out the day for free. The resort is themed as plantation stlye and they have kept their shape and style, very charming, considering it was built in the late 90's. The rooms are very clean and big, Bathrooms have their own tub.

FOOD is good! It did not change over the course of time, Fiji Restaurant is worth a try, the malaysian shrimp and fish curry, and Polynesian Spare ribs are to die for! Beef tapas are also our favorite for breakfast. They also give those Big Botles of Distilled Water everyday for free. (Not like the others who give 2 500ml of water).

They have lots of salt water and fresh water lagoons everywhere. Our kids loves it. The beach is quiet small, still clean, clear but a little rocky.

SPa is one of the best! Luxury spa, A bit pricey but will make you feel like a queen, worth splurging! I save a budget for this every trip!

This is my first review and I am afraid it won't be showing high marks. I stayed at the Plantation Bay as I heard good things about it and I believe it is a well established property. However, it really isn't to my taste. The entire complex is like a theme park. Everything, from the man made lagoons to the rock walls along the walk ways are fake. Not what I want to see on a 4 day vacation to a tropical destination. On top of it, service was mediocre and there really wasn't anything to shout about. I left after two days to Move to the Movenpick down the road, which turned out to be a way better choice

Dear TripAdvisor Readers:

We invite you to use Google Satellite to see actual overhead pictures of Plantation Bay, and compare it with any other resort on Mactan Island or Cebu, in respect of layout and "tropical-ness" in feel and appearance.

Though we are unable to identify this reviewer, we are sorry that he didn't enjoy our ambience. We go out of our way to advise prospective guests in advance that Plantation Bay is a man-made environment - just as most 5-star resorts around the world are man-made environments. Moreover, we are frankly mystified that someone would accuse us of being artificial and not "tropical" enough, and then claim that he was more satisfied with Movenpick. Though perhaps a fine hotel under its new management (the previous manager, a very well-known international chain, abruptly relinquished management about two years ago under circumstances that were not revealed to the public), Movenpick is a three-tower high-rise complex with a minimal waterfront. You can see that on Google Satellite, too.
