Couldn´t beat the Maribago Grill but didnt disappoint us either. Music was too loud, so we had to choose the dark side of the restaurant. Kids were afraid of the program the TV was showing.
I was glad blackout made the music quiet and turned the TV off.

Stayed 6-13 March 2013 and cannot speak highly enough of "La Place". Ethel is yr friendly and very helpful hostess, accommodation is stylish (love the river pebbles in the shower). Service quality is just that and the whole place had the right relaxed friendly vibe maxed out by the staff who always had a smile and friendly word. The icing on the cake was the Restaurant quality food. After my first two meals I saw no point in going out to find some-where better to eat. Even the big boss is a nice guy.

La Place is across the street from the much busier Maribago Grill. La Place is an outdoor restaurant, although there are sheltered areas where you can sit if it's raining. A log wall keeps out most of the street noise. There is rarely a crowd in La Place, making it a relaxing place to have a drink or a small meal. It's a good place to get away from the tourist crowd. The trees and sense of openness, combined with the relative quiet and dim lighting, make it a romantic spot for a couple seeking privacy.

The bar area is colorful and attractive, and (unlike Maribago Grill) it has a nice selection of high end alcohol. Most seating areas are benches with cushions next to low tables. There's very little light at the tables making it difficult to read menus (the small candles aren't much help). If you're looking for a fancy meal or a large selection from which to choose, go to Maribago Grill. The menu at La Place is limited -- a few pasta dishes, some pizzas, a few traditional chicken, pork, and seafood dishes, some sandwiches -- and your first choice from the menu isn't always available. What food they have is good. It's basic comfort food, not gourmet quality, but tasty. They have the best cheeseburger I've found in the Cebu/Mactan area. Not that you come to the Philippines to eat cheeseburgers, but if you get a craving for one, this is the place to go.

I would recommend La Place for light meals, snacks, or drinks. The bartenders/waitresses are attractive and friendly. Service is more attentive than is typical in the Philippines. The website advertises that La Place is open for lunch but I haven't found that to be true. The bar attracts a few expats and is (I'm told) a regular gathering point for Dutch citizens living in the Philippines, although I've never seen a crowd there. Every time I've been there, whether on week nights or weekend nights, the place is pretty much empty.

It's restaurant and guest house in one. Comparing to other guesthouses in a similar price level this is the best choice - nice rooms, hot watter, A/C, wi-fi, quiet place, friendly staff. Garden bar and restaurant is perfect for relax and good western cuisine is perfect if you have enough of rice. Tip: Tell the taxi-driver to go to Bluewater resort and then continue 50-100m. La Place is on right side. It's small place, most of taxi-drivers don't know about it.

We went for drinks and nibbles one weekday evening. The staff were friendly, the setting was good but it was a little quiet. I can imagine it's a fun place to be on a weekend, but I'd certainly recommend leaving your nearby resort to come here. The restaurant across the road is also very good.
