“No Complaints Here”
Reviewed March 17, 2008

Certainly, no complaints here.

I was greatly impressed from the very beginning. The lobby was very beautiful, and the front desk staff was attentive, and highly professional. Check-in took a little bit of time, but nothing excessive.

My room was clean, spacious, and well appointed. In fact, this room was better than a majority of the rooms I've had in the United States.

The hotel has an amazing resteraunt, with A TON of selection, as well as a pool bar with a good Wood Fired Pizza and Beer deal.

I had wanted to see the Friday Filipino traditional dance show, but it was cancelled due to rain.

The hotel also has a convenient ATM located in the lobby.

Oh...the business center is great, too...the staff was extremely friendly, and helpful.

I had the privilage of living at the Marco Polo for almost 5 months for work. The staff is out-standing, very friendly, and the service was exceptional. I look forward to the time I can go back again.

I have stayed in 4* hotels throughout the US and Asia, and in my opinion this hotel ranks among the best.

The rooms: We booked the mountain view room instead of the ocean view. There is about a $20 a night difference and you get essentially the same room, one with a view of the city and the ocean far in the distance, the other with a view of the mountainside and the rundown shantys dotting the landscape. One big warning here, if you book the mountainview, you might get a bunch of karaoke to go along with it. The first three nights we were in the room, the locals were blasting the karaoke at all hours, and it was loud enough to ruin your nights sleep. For the next 10 nights we heard nothing. The room was a fair size, plenty of room for a king bed, 2 nightstands, a TV stand, a desk and chair, and an easy chair. There was also a built in closet, coffee table and a bench seat. A room safe, coffee maker and mini-bar were included. The TV stations were pretty sad from a Western view. One thing I did not like was that there was no radio in the room, just an alarm clock. The room was in good repair, everything was clean and up to date. The bathroom was excellent, with the exception of very poor water pressure in the shower during our entire stay. The towels were starting to show their age, but they were clean and white. Each day the toiletries were replenished. The rooms were well cleaned each day. There are also 6 floors that are designated as non smoking.

The food: The restaurant's breakfast buffet was among the best I have ever eaten. They had an omelet station, fresh fruits, beautiful pastries and other baked goods. There is also the standard Filipino fare of tocino, tapa, bangus, rice and the like. This hotel caters heavily to the Japanese, so you will also find Gongee, Miso and Sushi as part of the breakfast buffet. The dinner buffet was equally as good. The ala carte menu was disappointing, offering lots of exotic dishes, but none of the great things you would expect to be offered at a pool bar such as a cheeseburger plate or a club sandwich. The buffet prices were high for the Philippines, P500 for b'fast, P600 for lunch and P750 for the dinner. Also tack on 22% for service charge and VAT, plus your drinks.

The Common Area: The property was beautifully maintained, the pool area looked like something out of a magazine. The lobby was beautiful and had an air of elegance about it. The elevators were plentiful and we never had to wait. Plenty of staff all about the help with any needs. They were all well trained and pleasant to deal with.

Location: The location of the hotel made it difficult to walk anywhere, but taxis were always readily available, and the hotel offered a free shuttle to the malls each day. If you took a taxi, the cost to JY Mall was P40, to Ayala P60 and to SM P80. The taxis always used the meter.

Cons: The location could be a issue to some, but with the low cost of the taxis, it was not a probem for us. The luxurious feel of this hotel might make you feel uncomfortable wearing shorts, t-shirt and sandals. One major disappointment was the fact that they wanted to charge P500 ($12.50) to allow food from outside in the room. I was pulled from the elevator with my food from Jollibee and had a go around with the manager. He finally waived the fee, but it was not a pleasant situation. I heard other guests complain about this policy.

All in all, this is a fine hotel, in a good location with excellent food and service. I highly recommend it.

I stayed for 3 nights at the Marco Polo Cebu in Augut 2007, for business. Very lovely hotel, the staff were friendly, check-in was very smooth, front desk officers were very accommodating. I accidentally left my jacket and skirt and remembered them when I was already in Iloilo City (for another business engagement). I called the hotel after 7 days, the telephone operator was friendly, I was directed to house keeping and voila! my stuff were with them. Great!

What I love the most? The buffet breakfast, a wide selection of greens, very enticing for a health buff like me. But if you don't have a car, the hotel location is a minus (though you can always request the hotel to get you a cab). Too far from the city proper.

For the price I ordered the room at I was suprised by the high level of service and I had an excellent experience staying at this Hotel. Staff very frendly and skillfull. Good food and nice room with city view. A far better Hotel then Marriot Cebu. My only complain is very high internet prize and mimimum charge. I would stay at Marco Polo again next time I visit Cebu. Higly recomended.

Stayed here with my family for a night before heading to Shangrila Mactan. Was here about 12 years ago when it was still Cebu Plaza. I am pleased with the transformation. Friendly staff and nice clean rooms. The kids enjoyed the scenic elevator. The food was good and inexpensive. Great place.
