“Colon the oldest most dangerous street in Cebu”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

This area is known for great bargains. Very crowded most days and like most busy market areas, riddled by petty crime. Street kids, prostitutes, drug pushers, mingle with the thousands of shop owners and side walk venders, 90% all lacking permits or control. You could buy most anything here, even double dead pork, fine fake Rolex from China, pirated CDs from the Muslims. The fact is true that also you can find some real bargains and hard to get items here. Don't ask anyone, just look yourself, it's better that way. Hard to get a taxi and the sidewalks are uneven, so be prepared for an adventure. TIP: Remove all jewelery, and watches, keep your purse at home, don't bring out your cell phone unless it is to call the police, go in small groups with a couple of big men included. It's more fun in the Philippines.

“Bargain stuff”

Looking for some bargain you can go to this place. It was just a walking distance to where we stay at Robes Pension House. We bought some cheap bags. The place is a bit crowded though.

“It is what it is”

You're in t third world country in their second largest city, what did you think you were going to encounter? It would be great if the city would spruce the place up a bit, but they are more focused on uptown and other areas of growth and interest.

Sure there are snatchers and pickpockets, that comes with the territory. Just take common precautions and you should be fine. Jeepneys and taxis all over and pedestrians a plenty, that is down town.

Shopping, just learn how to haggle cause they will start high! There is not much in the way of quality but you can find interesting and usefull things if you take your time.

If you wander into Carbon (past USJR) keep your wits about you, but don't go there at night!

“Great Bargains”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

You need to search and be careful of your things (like most places!). But this is a great place to find souvenir and clothing bargains, in particular. Lots of local crafts cheap. Costume Jewelry necklaces as cheap as 25cents US. Definitely a great place for shopping. Not as fancy as the big shopping malls, but great bargains abound. Worth a look in the day time.
