“1st street in the country?!?!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2012

I think this was the first street in the Philippines so worth visiting.however it just looks like a street in Divisoria, nothing much about it just the idea itself that it was the first street.

“Oldest street in the Philippines”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Oldest street in the Philippines, looks like it :P Busy commercial area, with dusty old buildings. Worth to go up and down Colon for bargain hunters , but really not for me

“not a place to stay longer”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2012

it is polluted and noisy because of the jeeps, taxis and cars that passes by. not a place to display your valuables because they say that there are many snatchers on that place.

“Just drove through”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2012

We were on a private tour of Cebu City and the tour guide told us it was not safe for all of us to walk down the street - we had 8 small kids with us - we just drove down the street - we were told about pickpocketers so if you decide to go, just watch your things. I would go back with my spouse and leave the kids home next time

“Experience real life in the Philippines”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

If you love grungy third world environments, you'll love Colon. There are lots of eating and shopping to do here -- and plenty of bad traffic, dilapidated buildings and poorly maintained streets. In short, this is normal life in the Philippines. Don’t be a noob. Don’t just visit the fancy malls or resorts in Cebu. You won’t get the full and genuine experience of the country without visiting places like Colon.

Even though Cebu is Philippine's second largest city, few foreigners visit Colon. So expect a few curious stares, particularly at night.

One good thing about Colon is, you don't get touts following you or being aggressive. Another surprising thing is, there are few beggars pestering you (like they do in great numbers in Manila) despite obvious widespread poverty.

If you're male and look remotely foreign, you'll likely get solicited by prostitutes at night. But they aren't pushy or threatening.

As long as you stay on the main drag, you're quite safe since there are plenty of people around including security guards and police. The notion this street is “dangerous” is absurd. Go to Google News and try to find the last time there was a violent incident here. There is little chance someone can hold you up with a gun without it being seen by several dozen people. Your only real concern should be pickpockets, normally by little kids. Secure your belongings and don’t display wealth and you should be fine.

Most jeepney routes go through Colon. If the route does, it will surely say so on the side of the jeepney. If you go by taxi, you should ask the driver to take you to Colonnade Mall, which is in the center of the action.
