“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

This is a well-maintained museum in a 19th century prison building. It has interesting displays of all periods of the national history, and a nice little cafe and shop. I particularly liked the photos of Spanish colonial bridges and the natural environment displays.

“Excellent Museum- a little historical gem”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

Very nice museum to learn about local culture and history. The archeological artefacts are very very interesting. The museum is very informative and the best one I've been to in the Philippines to date. The building used to be a prison, but is now converted to showcase Cebuano history. If you like history, it's worth visiting. I saw other Filipinos and foreigners enjoying it as much as we did.

Also, if you have a problem with stairs, it may be a hinderance to you since there is no elevator. Also, if you are not Filipino-size in height, please please please watch your head, because the stairs and corridors have low overhangs.

“Nice historical museum”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

Very well documented, I went to that museum a few weeks after it opened a couple of years ago. It was rather empty, but you could feel it had potential. I was happy to see last year that it thrived and got even more interesting. Good job.

“Really enjoyed the Museum, Its a must while in Cebu !”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

I am really keen to find out more about the time prior to the Spanish and American Invasion to these people. They were once a great sailing and trading nation with contacts all over the Asian world, From Imoperial China, to Feudal Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, and India.... even Pakistan and Afganistan ! This Museum finally lays it all out for you to see it. Yes they also bang on about the Spanish, and the Americans, and the recent Political regimes, but the pre Spanish History is exciting, and its all there to see.

There are Brochures, Movies, Videos, and soem book suggestions too. As well as this there are great display cases, full of antiquities, professionally displayed. Oh and by the way the air conditioning can be turned down, just ask the guard ! There is also a Coffee shop there with Brewed Coffeem which is their own special blend.... enjoy it.... we did. There are also cold drinks and snacks.

The museum is open 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. and photography is allowed in certain rooms, but not in others., they will advise you where and when its allowed.

The crafts people of the museum are currently preparing for a display to be sent to Russia, so they are happy to show you what they are working on.
