“The place is a little bit dirty”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

Most of the local people doesn't knew about this guesthouse so if you want to take public transport just ask for the jeepneys to mango square which is few hundred meters away or just inform them opposite lighthouse restaurant.
The boy staff was not friendly compare with the girl. If you wish to ask for information better ask the girl staff as she can speak better english.
The room is abit dirty and smell of urine.

What i liked about Cebu Guesthouse, was that it was close to Ayala Mall, which i walked to.Also close to a supermarket called Fooda, which is on same road.Did visit the clubs very briefly which are also very close too.Generally the staff are friendly and some speak english.Joann is by far the best one to communicate with and was the most helpful. The young man at the desk(did not get his name) was also very helpful.Charnie, the attractive young lady who cooks, was also great..The staff who do the washing of clothes, dont understand english. The security guards were also good, however one really made me fed up,as brought in a new guest into the dorm at 2am and put the main light on.His english is terrible and i just wasted my breath on him, trying to make him to understand that you dont do that. There is a torch, which he did not use.
The showers do not need hot water to shower,or rather to pour water from a pail from a bucket.Yes i too saw that there was often hair left in shower area, after it was so called cleaned. The tiles and bucket need to be given a good clean,as the staff doing that are lazy.Other wise thay were not too bad.The one shower door on the upstairs one,you could not lock well,as the door bolt needed two extra screws.I asked several times for it to get done,to no avail.
There is some decent size lockers,so bring your own lock.
Yes i too saw some rats, however they were not in the room i slept in.I saw them near the kitchen area. There are three cats there,so should be none there at all.Sorry to say that rats are a big problem in Philippines.Saw no live cockroaches in the dorm, but did see them near the kitchen. They too are a problem every where in the Philippines.
I did not eat any food from the kitchen,so cant comment on that.I did use it and was generally clean. The fridge door had a rubber band holding it closed and the deep freeze needed to be defrosted. And despite asking the staff several timed it did not get done, till my last day.Only to find out that the owner, was now there from Tasmania. Her son is a manager there and there is a saying. While the cat is away the mice will play.
Having said all this,i would stay there again.Although next time i will ask the staff on duty to tell the guests to move from near the TV area, after midnight when having too much beer etc.As they should have been, asked to move, instead of me telling them to keep quiet at 3am.
Lastly, besides the fact that i need to try get used to a aircon, with its noise.Generally i was able to sleep better there,as heard no roosters, dogs or motor bikes.

Room Tip: Try stay far from the TV room.

I was looking for a cheap place to stay in Cebu and the location was close to the airport, so I decided to stay there for a couple of nights.
It was the most terrible experience in my life and I am traveling around the world for nearly 10 years now.

1. Its dirty everywhere! The bathroom is so disgusting, never seen anything like that.
2. Dont arrive there tired because they take advantage of it and overcharge you simply because you are too tired to look at up again on the internet
3. Things disappear from your room and if you try to follow it up via email they dont even bother getting back to you
4. Its noisy as hell, so if you want to stay awake all night long from the noisy traffic outside that is the place to be
5. The staff is terrible lazy, they cant even bother to tell you were the next shopping center is
6. The offer free wifi, well it doesnt work anywhere in that place
7. Make sure you look your door (if you have a lock) because the staff is so terrible stupid that they stumble into your room in the middle of night with new guests because they cant remember which room is already booked

Cebu has lots of places to offer for the same amount of money, no reason to stay in this disgusting place (try Allsons Inn, its just around the corner and a much nicer place to stay)

We stayed at the Cebu Guesthouse for 2 nights since all we wanted to see in Cebu was a temple and go to Bohol (a nearby island). It is like any other hostel in a city; the location was ideal because it was close to the Ayala mall and the temple we wanted to see. It was also located on one of the main streets in the city. Because of the negative reviews, we booked without high expectations of the place: we just needed a place to sleep for two nights. Unfortunately, the first night, the hallway outside our room smelled like urine and it eventually smelled like that in our room. The second night wasn't so bad. Our room had a/c although the settings on the front didn't work. To turn it off, we had to unplug the a/c. Overall it was a good economic place, but don't expect anything nice.

Despite all the negative reviews of this place, I had a positive experience on my single night stay. We arrived in the early morning flying from Singapore and struggled to find availability within our relatively tight budget around Fuente Osmena / Mango Avenue. The staff were helpful let us check into the room early, did us a reduced rate for the 3 bedroom room with air cond. The manager was friendly when I chatted to him and helped us to ordered a taxi to the bus station the following morning. Best of all - when I put my clothes into be laundered I left a 20 Ringgit note in my shorts which was returned to me - quite surprising as I would otherwise not have noticed and I'm sure it would have had reasonable value to whoever was doing the laundry. As far as I can tell it is a decent budget option in Cebu City proper (of which there are not many).

For location: Walking distance from Ayala mall.(around 5-10mis).
On Mango Avenue, night club are nearby.

Price is reasonable 350p for dorm. It is good for 1-night or solo traveller.

The services of the staff is not very good.

Room Tip: Room price is reasonable, near Mango Avenue night clubs and Ayala mall

In Cebu for one night and stayed here on a friends recommendation. Not sure what the heck he was thinking, wish I'd read the reviews here first! Yes, it's dirt cheap, but I'd rather pay more and get a clean place. Room was tiny and backed on to the communal kitchen (lights on in the middle of the night and noisy). Bathrooms needed a good scrub and often toilet paper (not sure why because there often were lots of staff swanning around).
Only positives were supercheap, no bed bugs, near a shopping mall (needed some supplies).
I would NOT stay here again.
