“A different kind of trip...”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

I visited the hotel some months ago but there was not yet a review so i post now…

I arrived from Singapore to Davao (very small airport indeed!!) , I passed immigration very quickly  (they turned on the lights just for us!!) I changed money in the airport and I took a taxi to the city. The place is not close to the airport but with taxi is very accessible. It is very close to the sea and in some minutes of taxi you can reach the harbor (I will tell you after the reason..) The place was difficult to fin even for the taxi driver and this “difficultness” repeated every time I took a taxi but is a minor thing.. The area is not quite nice but is very calm and I was never in danger. It was quite strange the fact that apparently I was the only tourist on the island, the only European and probably the only Italian ever been to davao! Everybody was always looking at me!! The room is very small and there is a heat problem in the night but if you go to davao you must adapt.. In the morning the best choice is to take the boat from the harbor and go to the island in front of Davao (I forgot the name..) .. it is an oasis of peace and tranquility, full of Filipinos families. I was literally “adopted” by a family and they gave me a ride with car , eat with them etc.. The centre is not that much, very packed with traffic. Easily reached next to the hotel various internet centers, two mall (Galvano o gaisano is the name of the chain). So… the hotel is quite Spartan but a very choice for money especially from Singapore (the flights were very expensive!!) .. pick it if you like me are a backpacker and you want tranquility!

I used to stay at Tinhat together with my friends because we feel comfortable. It is also accessible to transportation, the staff will always assist you for the taxi. The desk supervisor is very knowledgeable about traveler's needs. She has the foresight of what the guest needs for travel. A nice place to stay...... home sweeter than home

Room Tip: "Rooms on the second floor nice ambiance"

We booked for 2 nights but we ended up looking for another hotel because we had a hard time staying here due to bedbugs; their bed sheets are clean but the mattress itself has tons of crawling insects underneath. I wake up in the morning and find myself with insect bites & red rashes all over my body. But after that we transferred to a different hotel located at San Pedro Street. It was less expensive and is way way better than this place.

Room Tip: Book somewhere else, there are no good rooms.

The Tin Hat Boutique Hotel is the perfect place for travelers who are on a budget but who don't want to sacrifice nice amenities and location. The hotel is fairly centrally located within the city and traveling to and from most of the sights is pretty easy. Many of the taxi drivers aren't aware of the hotel, so it is advisable to write down the actual address to give to them, especially if you don't speak Tagalog or Visayan. Most taxi rides won't cost more than around P100 to P150 (US $2.50 to $3). The taxi drivers here in Davao are known for their honesty so you don't have to worry about getting gouged.

The rooms are small but extremely comfortable and modern. There's free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and cable TV with brand new flat screen TV's. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom and shower were adequate. The water pressure is really good too which, if you've traveled here in the Philippines before, you know can sometimes be a problem even in the best hotels.

The food is OK but the menu isn't that extensive but I'd recommend at least having the free breakfast that comes with the price of the room. Be advised that this is a Muslim owned hotel so there is no pork or alcohol available anywhere inside.

If you book online, you can find single rooms for around P1000 (roughly US $23) a night. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who needs a great place to stay for a great place. We'll definitely be returning here on our next trip to Davao.

This hotel is a lovely decorated place with comfortable little rooms. Exactly what you look for when spending a few nights in Davao City. Prices are about 1300 Php.
In the centre of the Chinese quarter, it is close to the St Ana wharf, but a good distance from the airport. Taxi drivers do not know it usually, so have the exact address ready when hiring a cab.
The food at the restaurant is so-so, but the staff is very courteous and friendly. Be aware the owner is Muslim, so no alcohol or pork is available.
