I've been visiting De Bonte Koe, and its proprietor, Henny Smits for more than ten years. It's one of the few restaurants in the Philippines in which the same high standard has been maintained unflaggingly over time, and for that reason alone is worthy of the rating.
I ate there again, with three companions, last week and, as usual, received excellent service together with an excellent meal, which in my case consisted of pork cordon bleu; thin slices of pork tenderloin surrounding excellent slices of ham and cheese, presented with perfectly cooked French fries and green beans that were thoroughly cooked but firm. One of my friends had the pepper steak, prepared exactly to her specifications. This is still, in my opinion, the best steak in town.
The restaurant is extremely attractive, well decorated, comfortable, and with sufficient table spacing that, even when full, it never feels crowded. As always, Henny was attentive, charming, and an excellent host.
The menu is extensive, and offers everything from friend calmare (which we had and which was also excellent) to the somewhat unusual mustard soup (also excellent) and an array of meat, fish, pork and chicken dishes.
This is a restaurant that never disappoints, never delivers less than expected quality, and maintains consistently high standards of food preparation and service. It's well worth several visits.
