“Considering some other Apartel? No need, Drifters is the one!”
Reviewed April 3, 2009

To be honest, I had troubles locating a decent place with a reasonable price before my trip to Davao. I made a bad choice and selected another apartel. That place was dirty and had an unresponsive staff. So I use their phone and called Drifters. They said "Yes, come over and see". It was so much nicer and cleaner and with a price that seemed a sin to take. I took it and moved in. I am so glad did. The staff is the best. I took most of my meals there and the food was fantastic, especially the garlic rice. I used all there services, laundry, internet, pub, pool, and service to the airport. They did not disappoint ever! If you are looking for a spot with a lot of action, well this is off the track. However, if you are looking for a safe and quite place with more service than a 5 star hotel...look no further.

We enjoyed our stay at the Drifters. We stayed in a studio suite with a fairly equipped kitchen, comfortable queen-sized bed and very good supply of hot water, The owner Marnita Reyes as well as her staff were very accomodating. The Pub serves good meals at reasonable prices. We also had courtesy shuttle service from and back to the airport. The Drifters is located in a quiet neighborhood but easily accessible by common transportation(taxi, tricyles and jeepney) and thus makes going around davao city and its outskirts fun/educational/easy. Going to samal island is just a short cab ride and a 10 minute boat ride fr the boat terminal. we originally planned to spend 2 nites in samal island but decided to just to go there on a day trip as our stay at the drifters was very satisfactory.

Today is the last day that our family of 2 adults and 3 children will be staying at Drifters Davao (aka Drifters Apartel & British Pub). The hotel itself is relatively new just established in 2003 and inside a quiet village (American-styled community). It has been a fun and meaningful trip to Davao, especially with one of the owners (Marnita) helping us plan our travel itinerary such as going to local malls and beach resorts. They also were very welcoming even from the start when we met them at the airport. Since our flight arrived at Davao from Hong Kong at 3:05AM, they still got up and drove us back to Drifters free of charge. They even drove with a big SUV. This was the first sign of good service. The second sign was even before we came to Davao, we booked a room with kitchen (D-3 by the way) at Php 1450, but they gave me a discount of Php 100 with no reason and said they would provide extra beds free of charge for the kids (even though it said extra Php 150/bed on the website. I was very thankful. The third was they never issued any hidden service charge (unlike other Davao hotels at 10%), thus it helped us on our budget, they also let us have late check-out for free. Fourth, they have a restaurant with reasonable prices (quite high when compared to local prices) and they provide shampoo (in 12mL packs) and soap bars on a daily basis (whenever you leave the room). However, the negatives of the hotel was location and noise pollution. Nova Tierra Village is a bit isolated from the city centre and only taxis and tricycles were allowed inside. Taxi fares to the Victoria Plaza is exactly Php 90 while to Marco Polo (City Centre) was Php 102. The noise from the airplanes were quite noisy (but Davao Airport doesn't have that many flights), but bearable in addition to the roosters crowing late at night (but not in the morning!!). The air-con and windows blocked most of the noise. Overall, I liked staying at this place away from most of the hustle & bustle of the city. By the way, Bluejaz Resort's boat port is within 10 minutes walking distance!!!

I travel a lot and usually stay in the better hotels, I was drawn to Drifters by the reviews on this site.
We stayed 10 days in the 5 Star Dusit Thani in Manila prior to going to Davao and staying at Drifters, after that I would rate Drifters as 7 star, the place is so clean, the rooms large and comfortable, the staff are warm and friendly and the smiles are genuine, nothing is too much trouble for them.
Without a doubt the staff there go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable, even doing the laundry and take it to your room leaving it neatly folded on the bed for you and the cost is so small!
That sort of treatment removes what I consider hassle and leaving you to enjoy your holiday
Other travellers there were obviously content as the atmosphere was so friendly and relaxed.
Made many friends while staying there.
The food!! Well I am British and found it as good as can be found anywhere in Britain at a fraction of the cost!!
Well done Drifters on providing a great service and making our stay there so enjoyable.

I have stayed at several Hotels in Davao and I saw the ratings on this hotel. It is now the only hotel we will stay at in Davao. The value is outstanding. The wife is a fanatic on the cleanliness of the bathroom and she was extremely satisfied. Service was friendly and very prompt. I have the impression that all employees take pride in their work. Free internet service. Only 7 rooms, which my group we used 4. We make a trip to Davao once or twice a year. We only ate breakfast, which was good, but they had next time will try other meals. The bar was clean and had a large selection of imported beverages.

Nice and close to the airport, very helpful staff (and friendly) and comfortable rooms.

This is a small family run hotel in a residential estate close to the airport which is about 25 mins from town. Rooms were large and clean. Don't expect Novatel..its more like an English room, quite basic but comfortable. The room i had did not have hot water operating although the machine to make it was there, so a little disappointed with that. And the remote control on the tv did not work properly in the other. Pool is small...but the block its on is small too.

They have a comfortable little pub downstairs with reasonably priced drinks. Also the food is basic, but good quality.

The staff are excellent. We would stay there again just because its well priced and friendly. It would be nice to fix the hot water and remote...but overall well done guys. We enjoyed our low key stay and will be back.

This is really a gem in Davao and, really, anywhere in the world. It is one of those places you really can kick back and enjoy your trip. It is not luxury by any stretch of the imagination, but the attention to service and satisfying the guests is unmatched.

It is a small facility with just six rooms in a large compound within a subdivision on the outskirts of Davao City. The owner will pick you up and drop you off at the airport upon request free of charge in a large, comfortable SUV.

The rooms are oversized, clean and comfy. Most have a kitchen, although the owners gladly let us use the larger main house kitchen when we had dozens (literally) of friends and family over to cook out and enjoy the fresh treats that Davao offers like tuna and exotic fruits (i.e. durian, mangosteens, mangos, rambutan, bananas, marong). The kitchen staff also helped prepare anything else we needed for these big gatherings that lasted into the night.

The compound encircles a nice, small pool where you can play and relax. Great for kids!

The truly special part of the facility (apart from the staff) is the British style pub located in the basement of the building. It was outstanding. You can catch all types of sporting events from around the world. I watched the World Series in the morning and the EPL in the evening. They were well stocked with ice cold San Migs and imported treasures from England and Ireland.

The prices were great. The average room is around 1400/Net a night and can accomodate three or four easily. You can book directly by contacting the owners via phone or email.

If you want white table clothes and stylish swank surroundings, this might not be your style. If you do want and enjoy a relaxing, comfortable place without pretentions where all are welcome and invited to enjoy the basic pleasures of traveling, this is your place in Davao!
