The first thing I like about Mesclun is the location.
Finding it conveniently located in the center of the business hub of Ortigas area where the hotel offers valet service spells clear advantages for me.
Upon entering the lobby of The Linden Suites, the elegant staircase will bring you to Mesclun at the 2nd floor.
The restaurant layout and decor are fantastic!
Vibrant yet serene, colorful yet well-blended hues, classy and comfortable.
In this part of the city, it's one of my dearest places for me to dine and relax.
Start it off with the AMELIE, a vodka-melon harmony of flavours concoction.
LOVE at first crusty MINI-FRENCH BAGUETTE with unsalted Garlic and Parsley compound butter bite.
Crusty on the outside but pillow-y soft inside.
Make sure to order these service breads for take-out.
FRENCH ONION SOUP, a little bit on the lighter side but still packed with the caramelized onion flavors you are seeking for.
One of my absolute delightful discoveries: FRIED CAMEMBERT CHEESE WITH STEWED APPLES, RASPBERRY COMPOTE, WALNUTS ON FRENCH BAGUETTE.
All of these to create the perfect bite (see photo).
The Stewed Apples and Raspberry Compote were all freshly-made by Mesclun.
Each component was truly exquisite.
Crunchy YAKUZA CHICKEN WITH KATSU SAUCE
Think crunchy Chicken Popcorn
Kids up to 92 will love this.
TRUFFLED PORTOBELLO MUSHROOM SPREAD WITH BAGUETTE.
Let me break it down:
Portobello Mushrooms + Truffle Oil
------------------------------------------------ = PERFECTION
Warm (super yummy) sliced French Baguette
No explanation necessary.
Just make sure you order this.
Some serious genius you can glean from this dish.
(Note to MESCLUN: Please also have Pasta Laing?)
GUAVA PORK ADOBO WITH RICE PILAF is a must order dish.
Who knew adding guava to a Filipino staple is a seriously great complement of flavors.
Nope, it's not a sweet dish.
Just the harmonious blending of the guava flavor to the savory dish.
DUCK CONFIT WITH (the creamiest) MASHED POTATOES AND SWEET POTATO CHIPS
To have these contrasting textures be eaten with a falling-off-the-bone duck is quite delightful.
FLAMMEKEUCHE (flat bread)
Now, if you have been paying attention to what I have been sharing to you about how awesome the bread is, take note of another application of the dough-kneading-baking prowess Mesclun has to offer.
Think bacon, onion and creme Fraiche.
Think English & Italian garlic sausage, onions, Swiss Cheese, Creme Fraiche, Basil.
HOUSE-CURED ANGUS CORNED BEEF WITH CABBAGE, POTATOES, CARROTS SERVED WITH POMMERY MUSTARD-HORSERADDISH SAUCE, RICE PILAF & IT'S COOKING BROTH.
If you like Corned Beef, wait till you try this one.
This artisan corned beef has wonderful flavors which will confuse you whether you just want to consume the whole thing as fast as you could so you won't miss any of its flavors, or you just want to slowly savor all the beefy goodness that only a brilliant Chef can prepare.
The broth is intended to give the delicious, tender, well-marbled Angus Corned Beef more "beefy" and salty flavor by spooning some of it on the meat.
And if you want to drink the broth as a soup, please let them know so they can water it down.
And yes, please eat this with Rice.
Their LINGUINE WITH TRUFFLE CREME is well-seasoned.
Just enough truffle oil on this dish to make you appreciate its quaint flavors.
GRILLED APAHAP WITH TOMATO RELISH
I like how they made the skin crispy to give it a nice contract of texture against the tender fish.
The tomatoes were well-simmered to take away most of the acidity to blend well with the aquatic meat.
NORWEGIAN HALIBUT WITH BLACK INK RISOTTO
Their execution of the risotto was spot-on.
Patience is the key to a well-done risotto which was evident in this dish.
If you like squid ink, then this is the way to go.
BEEF TENDERLOIN WITH MASHED POTATO
Tender and juicy beef tenderloin cut grilled just right.
I am a fan of how creamy their mashed potato is.
I asked for just a few drops of Truffle Oil on the mashed potato and VIOLA!
BEEF POT ROAST WITH SHITAKE MUSHROOMS, SPINACH & ASPARAGUS
This is as close one could get to a Chinese Beef Stew.
And it was good!
In between these dishes, I asked for their PINEAPPLE SORBET as a palate cleanser.
If only I could this for take-out.
I absolutely loved the gentle and sweet pineapple flavors in crystal-form.
FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE CAKE WITH ARCE DAIRY FRENCH VANILLA ICE CREAM
In this country, when once speaks of ice cream, ARCE is one FIlipino brand this country is most proud of. Think of a warm molten chocolate lava cake with the cold creamy French Vanilla flavored ice cream, both melting in your mouth. Chocolate and French Vanilla flavors. Cold and warm sensation. All of these frolicking in your mouth.
SUZETTE FLAMBE WITH ORANGE ICE CREAM
If only for the cool flames that came with this, it would be enough reason to order this.
But there is more.
The buttery crepes with the orange-flavored gelato was such a delicious combination.
Bailey's Ice Cream
+ Brewed Coffee
= Bailey Afogatto
(totally my idea)
