We ate a late lunch midweek. The restaurant was not full and there was sufficient seating. The layout includes a front room with a pastry display; with a light blue and white color scheme - including white marble tables and white tile floor, a mirrored wall and indirect lighting - this area is airy and bright. The room we dined in is to the left and evokes a library with bookshelves (also backlit with indirect lighting), dark wood floors and tables, and hanging lamps and has a more formal atmosphere. Cafe 1771 also features the "Wine Bar" upstairs which we looked at. It is a large lounge and bar with the expected decor, heavy on the dark wood and leather.
The food was well-prepared and tasty. They offer appetizers, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and pastas. The meat proteins include chicken, lamb, pork, beef steak, sausages and oxtail. There are several seafood choices, too. Naturally wine is available. It was fairly quiet when we ate there making for easy conversation. We also enjoyed their pastries.
Cafe 1771 offers a lot of food in a very pleasant atmosphere conducive to a relaxed meal and good conversation. I do not know if the dinner menu differs from that offered at lunch. It would be interesting to visit the Wine Bar some time in the future.
If interested in quality food while in the area definitely give Cafe 1771 a try
