The Heritage Hotel Manila
Ranked #10 of 33 Hotels in Pasay
Reviewed October 22, 2010

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights recently. Woudln't advise others to do so.

The location is very close to the Mall of Asia which is a good place to visit. However not a reason to stay at this hotel, as you can get a relatively cheap taxi there (or jeepney if you're a bit more adventurous for 7pesos) from anywhere in the city.

If you're after a safe, comfortable stay in Manila I would advise you to stay here. However only if you realise you're paying way more than you should for this "5 star" hotel. It's flash compared to others in the area however wouldn't rate as 5 stars in my mind.

The wireless internet prices in room are ridiculously expensive at 600 pesos an hour (compared to an average of approx 50-70 per hr in internet cafes). This is not acceptable and for this reason alone I wouldn't stay again. The rate isn't calculated per minute it's per hour. And although I'm sure I only spent just over 2 hours on this I was charged for "3 internet charges sir" at 1800. Ridiculous.

The hotel should provide free wireless. They should have rooms at a slightly cheaper rate. They should improve the pool which is very average.

Like I said if you want a safe, comfortable experience and aren't concerned about price go for it.

Also the concierge tried to charge a ridiculous fee for a tour of corregidor island. Book these tours yourself online and save a bucket. The internet has made this concierge redundant thankfully.

The hotel was great. Everything exceeded all my expectations. Its clost to the airport and mall with plent to do near by. The hotel itself was a great value. The staff is professional and very friendly. I would recomend the Heritage to anyone staying in the Manila area.

Convenient travelling to and from airport. Hotel shuttle service to nearby SM Mall of Asia is convenient and free of charge. Running a metered taxi would cost approximately 100 Pesos each way. There is a Casino on the bottom floor, next doors, for the one's feeling lucky or sufficiently bored. The metered taxi to/from airport will cost approximately 150 pesos id you run it metered. Do not get conned into "fixed" price offerings at anything from 300 - 1000P for this simple taxi trip. There are abundant A/C taxis available and the trip will take from 10 - 30 minutes depending on the traffic.

The following is my experience as a guess at Heritage Hotel Manila.
I found the front desk staff and management callous in their availability and willingness to address my concerns. They were deceptive to the point of a total rip off. The fact is that the hotel does have the facility to make 800 calls, but we were directed to the 00 collect calls from room to the benefit of the hotels. I would add the calls on the bills were verified as calls made to collect numbers.
On July 7th we arrived as a guess at Heritage hotel Manila. Reservations were made through a Hotel travel agent forl July 7th, 2010 departure July 10, 2010. I arrived presented the travel voucher.
While there I had occasion to call travel agency regarding a change in ticket and my bank. Both institutions had 1-800 numbers or collect calls using the area code. July 8 & 9 collect calls were made to these institutions. I was told by the Heritage hotel operator staff that there is no facility to make a 800. But could make collect calls, I was told to dial 00 +1 and the number. I did as advised, the collect call was established. On the late evening of July 9th, anticipating an early departure July 10th, I asked for my bill. To my horror there was a charge for $576.00 dollars representing collect calls and 1-800 calls. The desk staff could not explain how collect calls were made, or why the charges were on the bill. I asked for a manager, was referred to Hal, he could only explain that the information I received was incorrect and the hotel does have facility for 1-800 calls but the operator would have to place them. I told him that was not my experience, and his staff was not in unison with that information for making collect or 800 calls. The numbers called was collect to Citibank and expedia using the international collect call number. On the morning of July 10th. I received a call from Hal; I was advised that the hotel accepted the calls made as advised by their staff . Mr. Al Bact; manager, was the manager who I dealt with and approved the process for checking out charged only with the remainder of the bill balance of 1,876.19 PHP was paid in cash Balance due: 0.00 PHP. July 14th, I was alerted by my Bank, of an unusual charge from Heritage Hotel Philippines in the amount of $476.20 to my credit card
These additional charges were made to my card after the fact, without my knowledge or authorization. When I contacted Heritage hotel Manila asked for Mr. Al Bact. He was either busy or would call me back. After several unsuccessful attempts to speak to them, the Bank finally reversed the charges.

This is a decent hotel about 10 minutes drive from the airport. I would not stay their again because of the outrageous charges for everything extra. I paid $122. USD a night for my room with a king size bed. It was comfortable and had a good room safe in the closet. The Chinese restaurant and the hotels buffet restaurant where way over priced. A glass of mango juice at the Chinese restaurant on the ground floor cost $6 USD. A small bottle of water in our room ( approximately 10 ounces) costs over $4 USD. These type of charges really turn me off to a hotel. Their laundry charges were also high.

This hotel is close to the Mall of Asia and they do have a free shuttle to it but the schedule wasn't good so we took a cab back. If you use a cab in Manila make sure it is metered and they turn it on. Otherwise you are being ripped off. There is several gambling rooms in the hotel including slot machines. We don't gamble so can't say much about that.

We booked a superior room with 2 double beds with their weekends away promotion for a day on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010. We arrived at the hotel at noon, the first impression is the doorman, no greetings, no smile.
As we walked into the lobby and check in area, we noticed that there are quite a bit of call girls (the filipinos use the term Japayuki) lounging in the lobby lounge. Not good for a family like us to see this environment in a hotel that classified itself as a five star hotel.
We went to the check in desk, when finally is our turn the person at the check in desk told us that our room will be ready for us at 2pm. Since the hotel is nearby the Mall of Asia, we decided to wait for our room to ready at this mall.
When we arrived at 2:15pm, the check in desk looked a little chaotic. There were only 2 people handling all the check in/out, while there are many people trying to check in/out.
When it is finally it is our turn to be helped, the check in person told us that our room is still dirty and not ready. We thought, okay, maybe in a few more minutes, it's okay we can wait.
But when we asked how soon the room will be ready, we were told that our room will not be ready until at least 3:30pm. The person suggested that we waited at the lobby lounge while waiting for our room to be ready. Right away we thought, no way for us to wait in the lobby lounge with our 11 yr old daughter while there are call girls lounging there.
So we told the check in desk person that we do not want to wait and want our room right away as promised. She then frantically (although she tried to maintain calm) making call here and there to find available room.
After several attempts, she then told me that they cannot provide any room right away, and told me that we will have to wait for at least another hour. Because of that I insisted that I must be provided a room, because I do not want to waste my time waiting.
At that point she then, again, try to look around for available room, and finally offered us a Club room with 1 King Bed. We decided to settle with this offer, although our daughter might have to sleep on a sofa, or all three of us cramped on one bed.
As we walked in the room, we noticed the room was spacious enough for a Club room, although in many other five star hotels, the Club Room are more beautifully decorated. No fruits in the room (even in standard room of other four/five star hotels in Manila we always see a fruit plate at least). There is noipod dock station, the television is an old fashion tv.
There is a patio and the door to the patio is almost impossible to open, due to a water leak from above there seem to be a corossion on the sliding door.
The bathroom was quite spacious although we found another drawback, the curtain on the bathtub is only as wide as the tub itself, so if we shower, the water will spill all over the floor.
We decided to go to the swimming pool, and alas! In a hotel that claimed to be a five star, this swimming pool is maybe a standard from a non star hotel swimming pool. There is a pool bar, however it is in a condition that is not suitable to provide any service from there. It is dirty, dusty, corossion on some of metal door for their cabinetry.
There is a kid pool, but it is not functioning (it has a sign that it is under renovation).
The main pool has good clear water without having too much of chlorine to treat the water, so the water was good, however there were many tiles that either chipped or missing and was not replaced. We noticed some tiles were replaced with tiles that is not even matching in color with the whole pool tiles.
We decided to order some food while we were swimming, our finger food was delivered quick enough and our server asked us "is there anything else I can get you with?", while actually our noodles were not delivered yet, so I told him that he is missing our noodles.
Finally after sometime, he delivered the noodles, but maybe he thinks we should eat our noodles with our fingers because we were not served with our utensils and napkins. We had to call him to let him know about that.
Buffet breakfast was acceptable, with limited selection of local filipino food, bread and eggs to be cooked on order, pastries are also available. However, it is a no frills buffet breakfast for a five star hotel.

There is a casino in the hotel, however we did not go to their casino. There is also a business center that we did not utilize.

Location of the hotel is slightly away from the tourist belt of Manila, but close to the airport and the large Mall of Asia. Within walking distance we can easily find KFC, McDonald and local food joints.

Heritage Hotel Manila needs a MAJOR renovation, not just physical renovation but also service training renovation. This hotel cannot even be considered as a three star hotel, five star hotel will not have a swimming pool that is not maintained well, and five star hotel restaurant service will not forget to provide utensils and napkins for their customers.

Its standard cannot even be compared to other hotels from Millennium or Copthorne hotels that we have stayed like the 4 stars Copthorne Kings in Singapore, the 5 stars Grand Copthorne Waterfront and the Millenium Resort Patong.

Heritage Hotel Manila is not worth every pennies we spent, eventhough they have upgraded to the Club Room, even the Club Room is not up to par to 5 star hotels.

We stayed for two nights. Nice staff but the maintance was below standaard. We were upgraded because of our honeymoon but the rooms are without much personality. Bathroom is in bad shape. The hotel seems to be chinees owned and the casino is nice and 24 hours. Breakfast was good but nothing special. Mostly asian foods. Not great value. Very noisy with the windows closed. Did have a little balcony... Pool was in a very bad shape (dirty area). Did not dare to go swimming.
