Probably not going to stay here again

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 23, 2019
We stayed here for two nights, the price was OK but I was able to see why upon check in;

When we walked into the lobby there were tons of people sitting around waiting to check in; We walked up to the front desk to find out we needed to take a number and was put into a queue, even though we had reservations booked online; There were two counters, I’m assuming one was for walk-in guests because when our other family members checked in at the second counter to the right we were also helped right away; So after about 45 minutes we were finally checked in;

We got to our floor (2nd floor) it wreaked of paint and chemicals (they were going under construction) honestly, the floor should’ve just been closed and unavailable for check in guests because it was that bad; The room was small, if you’ve ever been on a cruise ship the size is closely matched; The bathroom was also small with virtually no counter space and what’s worse is, the shower is frosted glass and extends out to the room, so technically, if you are traveling with someone other than your spouse it gives your other family members quite a show; That was disappointing altogether because we practically had to shower in the dark to avoid that. The room we were in was a full size bed with a pull out couch (size of a twin), no extra blankets/bedding provided unless requested, which we did but they only delivered the rough itchy blanket with no other sheets and no extra pillow. We requested a second time around for some bedding to be placed on the pull out couch and received the same itchy blanket that looked rather uncomfortable but at least they provided a thin sheet.

The drinks in the room were only water, tea and coffee, complimentary, however you were only provided with two coffees (instant packets) two sugars, two creamers and this was only provided daily, so you couldn’t request for extra or you’d be charged. We were on the second floor so the traffic wasn’t loud outside.

The room provides a fridge but it’s incredibly small (you can only fit 1L water bottle and slim drinks). There are no irons/ironing boards, they provide a hair dryer, towels, hand soap and body/hair soap (though I brought my own) they also provide vanity kits (toothbrush/toothpaste, shower cap). The shower over floods into the rest of the bathroom and the door is a wooden sliding door, not much privacy because of the frosted glass.

Pros:
- A/C works great for those not used to the heat
- Complimentary Wi-Fi for guests, and it’s fast
- Clean sheets and comfortable bed
- Gym/Fitness center located on 2nd floor
- 7-11 connected to the hotel
- Friendly staff
- Free parking for checked-in guests

Cons:
- No room service, but you’re able to place an order and pick it up from the ground floor
- Casino is very small and have rows of the same machine
- Bathroom provides limited privacy (frosted glass) to the room
- Small rooms
- Horrible stench of paint due to construction
- Check in lines were long
- Must request for bedding to be placed by housekeeping on roll out bed

Dear lamzuproc,

I would like to start by expressing my regrets for not meeting your expectations. We strive to make each stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible and it is only with comments such as yours that we will be able to provide a better experience in the future. The management is looking into the best solution for the bathroom glazed windows
As for staff assistance, the Holiday Inn Express is a hotel that operates on a limited service concept and our guests are mostly Simple Smart Travelers - people who are independent and can do the basic things for themselves. They do not like to be fuss over as they are able to wheel their own luggage, find their way to the room without escort etc.
We hope you will visit us again.

Sincerely,

LAurice Asuncion
Front Office Manager

I stayed in the hotel since I'm familiar of the IHG brand and HI Expres does offer buffet breakfast with continental selections and whole fruits like apples and citrus. As for the rooms, it's truly a signature bed that offers an amazing rest. Since the area is very accessible to the airport, it's really a good hotel to stay.

First of all, I have to admit that my expectations wouldn’t high knowing that it is a fuss free hotel and of some of the reviews I have read here.

Check in was relatively slow with only 1 staff for check in and 1 for check out. The lady staff however was very polite and apologized for the delay as she made an effort to explain everything about the hotel. What I like on first impression is that there are 6 elevators serving all floors.

On entering the room, I was glad to see despite of the small sized room, everything looks modern and clean but I can smell a faint smell of sewage as said in one of the reviews but not to the extreme of not bearable.

For a fuss free hotel, I was impressed with their choice of TV channels available and a god working table which is important for business traveler.

2 aspects which I cannot tolerate of the hotel
1. The door slammed really hard when you open and close it which means even if you make an effort not to let the door slam, others may disturb you.
2. As it is close to airport and highway, you can hear traffic deep into the night

While I did not have high expectations for the breakfast, I would consider it better and other Holiday Inn Express I stayed in.

Overall the hotel is slightly above average and with the price I paid , I would still choose it as a business hotel

I travelled with a group of students who were participating at a competition in the nearby convention centre. The hotel is close to the airport, Marriot and other hotels, malls and Newport theatre. The rooms are on the smaller side although the breakfast in the morning is quite commendable.

Room tip: Located near the airport and the malls

Stayed for 4 nights in Manila after traveling from the US. Typically have good experiences with holiday inn hotels, as they normally have friendly and professional staff and this hotel was no exception, they were courteous and polite. However 2 fairly MAJOR issues stood out with this visit.
1- The internet had the worst quality & reliability I've ever experienced in Manila. As someone who works remotely it made it impossible to do so. If you plan on netflix'ing, youtube or even light browsing/emailing, you'll need to go across the street to Starbucks or the mall/casino for that luxury. Internet is basically non-existent in The building (literally have to use cell data just to write this and send/receive emails).
2- The bathroom odors 😷: For whatever reason the plumbing design in many buildings in PH have issues with evacuating sewage smells from the bathrooms after use. This hotel is no exception, if use the facilities, you'll need to air out your whole room afterwards (luckily the rooms have windows, but no fan ventilation, so the smell lingers).
Aside from those issues, The shuttle, location in proximity to the airport and other basic comforts are there, but if you require internet and can afford to stay at one of the other nearby hotels, it would be a worthwhile investment.
