The Cru Steakhouse at the Marriott Hotel is Manila's most complete dining experience, where exceptional cuisine is matched with a confident, rich ambiance and a standard of service that is beyond compare. But after more than a dozen visits, it is the consistency by which this standard of excellence is delivered that makes this special place truly best of class.
The open kitchen is the centerpiece of Cru's stylistic and intimate design. Shades of dark red contrast handsomely with crisp white table clothes, providing a modern look while staying true to the masculine roots of a steakhouse. The high-back booths off to the side of the restaurant are ideal for a more private setting, lending itself to intimacy and good conversation. The tables at the center, near the open kitchen, are suitable for business dinners or those shared with a larger group.
Cru's menu features traditional steakhouse fare. The 350g US Angus Ribeye is a crowd favorite, and deservedly so. A spicy salmon tartar - prepared table side - is memorably good and a perfect way to whet the palate for the main event. The black truffle risotto, served in a miniature cast iron pot, is perhaps alone worth the journey to Cru. It is decadent, sinful goodness, and Cru would somehow be a lesser experience by forgoing this dish.
Manila features a host of restaurants that are both stylish and offer quality cuisine. That said, it is the people of Cru that sets it apart from the pack. The staff are highly knowledgeable and deliver a fine dining experience that is genuinely personal, intuitive, and self-confident. There is an efficient, almost choreographed flow to the restaurant that suggests it is managed with acute attention to the smallest of details. Five bright stars for Cru Steakhouse.
