“Beautiful Spot!”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

Recently had both a dinner and a lunch here. First, the place is really top notch. Great location and the ambiance and decor is impeccable. You couldn't really ask for much more, they should probably add more greenery covering the outdoor AC units which are visible from inside the resto. The back/garden dining area with an outdoor bar are fabulous.
As far as the food goes, it's decent, while not mind blowing. We had a nice steak for dinner one night. Scotch eggs were fantastic! Also tried a respectable sea bass dish and the short ribs appetizer was well seasoned and quite soft. Pizzas were also pretty good. The price is ok all things considered. I prefer the food in Peoples Palace but this place is worth a try, just don't expect every dish to be super. Nice spot for a drink as well, decent wine and spirits list. Overall, a great addition to Manila dining scene.

“A good revival of the Nielsen Tower”
Reviewed August 16, 2014

The Nielsen Tower has always been a landmark in the Ayala Triangle, and it is wonderful how they have transformed it into a nice restaurant.

They were able to retain the original Art Deco vibe whilst combining it with a modern touch. The powder rooms were piped in with gramophone music from the 40s. The original Watch Tower converted into a Function Room that can seat about 15 guests.

The place was cozy, service was good, food was excellent. This is one of those places I will keep coming back to.

While we were walk-ins, I heard that it is always packed. Best to make reservations beforehand.

“Marvelous!”
Reviewed August 16, 2014

Don't know how else to describe it. I'll second the superlatives mentioned by the other reviewers. We eat upstairs and preferred the cozy atmosphere to the somewhat noisy, hectic downstairs. Food was perfectly prepared, albeit portions on the smallish side. Service was attentive and professional.
Be advised there is no valet parking. Best if you're driving to valet at the Peninsular Hotel and walk across the street.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed August 15, 2014

We have ALL heard how great this place is so myself & 4 friends headed down there for lunch. Unfortunately they forgot my meal, apparently a miscommunication with the kitchen, I'm not sure what but our order was not written down or repeated to us so who knows. My 4 friends waited a while before they started their meals as I was told "& I'll just go get your pizza" but then it never showed so we asked twice and eventually got told it would be another 5 mins, ugh. My friends did start theirs meals before this as they were getting cold, so by the time my meal arrived they were 2 bites away from being finished. We did receive 2 complementary coffees but really feel you should not get charged the automatic "service" fee when the service isn't good.

“Manila needs more restaurants like this”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

I was invited by a friend to dine at the newly-opened Blackbird restaurant in the old Nielsen Tower. They did a great job in converting this place into a world-class dining spot. The interiors are nicely done, with a very comfortable bar/lounge area as you enter the restaurant. The main dining area is right in the center, with a 2nd level option for a more intimate or private group setting. Food was very creative and flavorful, blending influences from the East and West. Nothing complicated about it. Presentation was beautiful too. The place was packed with Manila's social crowd and there was a nice buzz to it. Bravo the culinary genius behind it and more power to you guys. We definitely need more of these restaurants to put Manila on the global dining map. A bit far fetched for now, but it can be a reality soon.
