Service and attention to detail at this hotel have you feeling like royalty.

Every single employee - from the porter, security guard, housekeeping staff, etc - greet you with eye contact, a smile, and a true greeting " Good afternoon, good evening, ma'am." It leaves you feeling a little embarrassed all this attention.

Wait staff in the lobby are absolute professionals - waitresses are dressed in uniforms that are practically eveningwear, long skirts and gold blouses, full-makeup and exceedingly attentive service. You feel out of place if you dress in a tshirt and shorts here - they set the standard, and you want to meet that standard by making an effort as a guest.

Lots of local, well-heeled visitors use the lobby as a meeting place for business meetings, and socializing with their friends - not just guests of the hotel.

A life-sized gingerbread house made of real gingerbread and candies was built by the pastry staff, next to the elevator. Christmas decor was on a grand scale; live string band was playing music in the mezzanine for dinner service in the lobby.

Fresh fruit, turn down service with ice bucket in your room when you return from your day out.

Food in the lobby, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, are fantastic. Western and Filipino standby's are done very well. There is also a cafe downstairs for pastries, chocolates, and coffee.

Did not try Escolta or Spices, since I ate at the Greenbelt mall quite a bit. You walk thru Escolta on the way out, and the buffet display was top-notch gourmet food-porn. Wish I would have made an effort to take one meal there.

Only a 5 minute walk to the Greenbelt shopping mall - everything you could ever ask for, from low-end bargains at The Landmark, to truly high-end everything (Prada, Gucci, Balenciaga, and all their best friends.)

When you think of a 5-star hotel, this is the definition. Old world - but not dated, stuffy, or worn - this is an updated, modern version of Old World and it was an absolute privilege to have been able to enjoy that old world glamour at least once.

Madhur Jaffrey restaurant it ain’t. Over priced for what it is, but it is a hotel. You know I’m kind of tired of hotels advertising about the competence of their chefs! When you consider that sauces of the dishes where fine, very tasty, but the quality of the meats were just ordinary. The lamb was dry and the duck didn’t taste at all like duck. The bread just ordinary and the deserts were not much to write home about. We actually had a half price coupon for our meal and it was still overpriced. Overall rating below average and I couldn’t recommend even at the discounted price.

Surely this is a must see landmark in the Philippines. It's lobby is huge and I would say an achitectural masterpiece. It feels like travelling back in Spanish colonial era.

The receptionists are very smart and efficient. They made sure to provide us all we need during our stay. We got the de deluxe room and it was all worth it. They gave us free coupon of halo halo good for 4 upon check in so I was able to invite may friends to eat halo halo with me and my husband.

Also, there was a complimenraty buffet breakfast good for two at Escolta Restaurant and the food there was really really great.

The Peninsula is great and offers a wonderful old-style colonial atmousphere where you are wrapped in compfort and treated well. The staff are eager to assist and there is everything from great food to a fantastic gym. Well positioned in the city, its only about 150 Pesos to get anywhere by Taxi and you can walk to the central shops. Well worth the stay

Room Tip: Executive club rooms are best and for a small additional fee (ask at check-in) you can get access to the Executive club which is worth the price.

This was my third time to Manila, and I'd stayed in other high end hotels around makati. However, in my opinion, none of them hold up to the Peninsula. Right from when you walk in, the Peninsula has a very stately and old world atmosphere to it. Further setting the mood, a small orchestra plays from the lobby during the evenings.

The hotel bar was just ok, it had a decent house band/jazz singer. The service is top notch and the breakfast is plentiful.
