“The Ultimate of them All !”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

I've always wanted to stay at the Peninsular Manila, I had heard of the famous lobby, I was not disappointed, its to die for ! one of the most amazing lobbies in a hotel anywhere in the world, comfortable, relaxing and it has its own ambience, a good place to meet someone for coffee, and afternoon tea, which I hear is a speciality (although I did not take it).

The Hotel is as you expect 5 star service, although our toilet in the room did not flush, I think thats probably just a minor glitch, and was soon sorted out by concierge staff, with major hotels, you are always going to get a problem here and there.

The room was clean and presentable, a double deluxe on the 6th floor, reasonable view of Makati avenue, and the complete room lighting system, is controlled from a digital touch pad system by your bed, the usual amenities you would expect in the Peninsular, room mini bar well stocked, good quality flat screen television, with all channels, pocket sprung bed system, the best I have slept in, so no issues whatsoever, in truth Im not going to say any more, because this hotel should get a good review by most travellers, you do get what you pay for, I think the room rate was about P6700.00 plus tax and service, I did not stay for breakfast as I had an early flight from Manila NAIA Terminal 1, my wife did stay for breakfast, she did say it was not as good as the Mandarin Oriental, so thats the best I could say. All in All you would want to stay here only for the great Lobby experience apart from that, its another first class hotel in Manila.

Room Tip: You can upgrade to an Executive suite with afternoon high tea thrown in, they have a promotion on at...

I deliberately stayed in Makati because it's close to where my friends live. The biggest advantage of staying at the Peninsula is that it's SAFE to walk out the front door & go shopping/eating in Makati. Triangle Park opposite is good for joggers.
For longer journeys they have regular taxi availability. Just don't expect to get anywhere during the peaks. Try to Arrive/Depart on a weekend as it's a breeze from the Airport. Otherwise expect up to 1 hour and traffic fumes.

THE PENINSULA MAKATI

. Food/Restaurants - EXCELLENT
. Staff - SOOO HELPFUL/FRIENDLY
. Pool - SHALLOW (SEPERATE) KIDS POOL - MAIN POOL HAS LAP LANE
. Rooms - AS EXPECTED
. Would I stay there again - YES OF COURSE
. Would I recommend this Hotel - YES

Room Tip: Don't get a room facing Makati/Ayala Ave as the traffic noise level is high during the peak. O.K...

Having spent one week in June 2013 for a seminar in Manila Peninsula hotel Makati.
Overall I had a good time both for businees and relaxing.
We had a seminar and hotel mngt did assist properly in organazing the venue hall (speakers, microphones, lights etc.etc.) and attached buffet and gala dinner. Atmosphere was good. Only sin that when we did order for toast, wine took more than twenty min. to come.
Rooms are clean and well furnished (something is a little bit dated but still well functioning).
Room service is good and prompt.
Quality of sleeping is good.
Gymnasium is big and very well equipped, with also personal trainer available, fruits and drink.
Swimming pool is big and if you are able to attend early in the morning you will not find much noisy kids(!).
Sauna and attache shower service in clean and in line with expectation for such kind of hotel.
Food is always difficult to judge beacuse of personal feeling and tasting typical of each part of the world. Anyway do not expect great western food. I had opportunity to taste good Indian food and some local told me about very good local food. Assorted finger sandwiches are delicious.

Overall very good stay.

This Hotel is very well located and first impressions were excellent with its spectacular lobby and great atmosphere reminiscent of another era. Despite some of the trivial shortfalls, I would stay here again and certainly recommend it. There are some things I love about this Hotel. The Pool area and its very attentive staff, breakfast which is fabulous, (great coffee and an extraordinary choice of food of all nations). The Restaurant where breakfast is served has amazing staff who should be highly praised for dealing with such a varied clientele.. Spices Restaurant I would also highly recommend. Free wifi in rooms and all public areas, really good bathrooms like most Peninsula Hotels, great pillows and unfortunately for me who loves soft beds these beds are really hard. A few pillowtops on offer may satisfy the minority like me. The rooms are fine but I did have an upgraded room so I am not sure what the standard room would be like. The in room complimentary coffee and tea are very much below standard with the coffee being almost undrinkable and the unbranded creamer should be banned . This stuff is trivial of course but these small things are easily fixed and are probably things that many travellers expect from a Hotel of this standard. This Hotel would be perfect for women travelling on their own, It is a Hotel that feels very safe and has high visible security. Lastly one word of advice to the jandal wearing brigade, this Hotel has a dress code and there is an extensive paragraph on what is acceptable. This Hotel is in a business area with many locals frequenting its restaurants and most especially large lobby area. Casual wear is fine and acceptable but shorts and flip flops only seen around the pool.

Room Tip: well away from smoking floor which I believe is level 2. Unfortunately the smoke seems to travel to...

The hotel was very nice, the staff was good and the lobby and hotel is grand. The room was average though, not as great as the first impression that the hotel gives you. It's walking distance to Makati, which is great
