The Peninsula Manila
Ranked #6 of 86 Hotels in Makati

I book this hotel during a short vacation in Manila. The hotel is situated in the heart of Makati Business District. The hub of local and international companies. Given that it is walking distance to malls, clubs and endless choices of restaurants.

The room that was given to us is double bed. The room is well kept and is very clean. There was a pool but its quite small but since there was no one using it during that time my nephews was able to enjoy the pool.

The room comes with a complimentary breakfast for 2 adult and 2 kids. The breakfast have a wide range of choices consisting of the best of Filipino breakfast, then there's also American and Japanese choices. Overall a sumptuous breakfast.

Not much has changed since my last visit. Still a 5 star hotel with great service, good rooms and good facilities. With that out of the way, here are two things that continue to bother me: 1) buffet looks great and really inspires an appetite, but beyond the looks the food's taste ranges from average to poor. There might be one or two good items (i.e. roast beef for dinner and the pancakes for breakfast), but the majority don't leave up to expectations for a 5 star hotel. 2) the treadmill touch screens are really bad. Whenever I was using the treadmill, I couldn't change the tv channels despite some really hard touching. It seems the sweat on my hand prevents the screen from recognizing my touch. This is really frustrating and something I raised last time I visited. Hopefully they'll change them soon.

We had stayed at the Peninsula in August 2012 as our flight arrangement required an overnight stay at Manila.

Majestic entrance, friendly service, good room and not much to complain about. They had live music during evening time at the terrace just above entrance and kids enjoyed that very much. They even played kids' music in classical manner for them.

Pool was small but nice and service staff were all attentive.

If you've ever been to the Philippines, the following will make perfect sense to you: No one does 'service from the heart' like the Filipino people. No matter who you come in contact with, and regardless of their organisational stature, the staff at The Peninsula reminded me of this simple fact time and time again during my stay this week.

The hotel is lovely. My room, on the Club Floor, well appointed and everything worked as it should. There are a number of restaurants serving a great variety of cuisines, plus a spectacular patisserie in the basement level. I didn't indulge in the spa or the pool - though the latter looked very inviting from the vantage point of my room.

Yes, The Peninsula deserves it's 5 stars - though as we're all aware, all stars are not created equal. What sets The Peninsula apart is its people.

We have stayed at the Pen numerous times already and we never go home disappointed. From the quality service up to the food and amenities, it's what five star is all about. The rooms are well-appointed (especially after they refurbished), and the food at the Lobby lounge, breakfast buffet and the bakeshop are as excellent as ever. Prepared to be pampered at the Peninsula Spa :)

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing Makati Avenue

Update on my 2012 review. No change...
Overall, this hotel is the place to be seen for the who and who of Manila, in particular the grand and spectacular lobby with the live band at night.
But this is not a business hotel, the rooms are outdated, control panel is old, overall noise insulation is much better from the street that from the noisy corridors (refer to last year comments about no door stoppers and doors banging). In particular, the desk and chair in room are not appropriate for working (desk is too high, chair too low and not firm enough).
Last point, they make it a point to force travellers to use their hotel car to go to airport, I waited and could get a metered taxi. Ony my way in to the hotel, Toyota Altis (not even a Merc !) was 2500 pesos, which is an outrageous amount of money for Philippines and this car (and there's not even bottled water for that price!).
Breakfast is very good with all varieties of food incl. Japanese and noice croissants.
Yes service is very good (and the runners have the typical groom uniform) but that's not what I expect on a biz trip. It would not be for the cheaper price than other 5* Makati hotels, I would not come to the hotel.
