“Average Hotel - Neither Outstanding Nor Horrible”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2010

This hotel is good, esp if it if your first time in Manila I'll list out pros and and areas for improvement below.

Pros
- Excellent location with the Greenbelt mall right at the front door all with brand name stores
- Breakfast buffet has an outstanding selection of food
- Service is impeccable, everyone is ready to help and serve; staff seem to be everywhere and nowhere
- Rooms have flat panel TV with good variety of channels
- Bottled water and boiler provided in room
- Internet provided in room

Areas for Improvement
- Cost of private transfer from airport is quite expensive
- Staff is always around, you feel bad at all the food wasted during breakfast. As an example, you get up for 2nd rounds of food, and they take your coffee and butter / jam away forcing you to get all new items...a bit wasteful.
- Should consider wifi throughout the hotel.
- May need to consider renovating the bathrooms as it's getting a bit outdated.

Just got back from my first visit to Manila. Went on a girlfriend shopping spree and picked the New World Hotel after reviewing the various comments and reviews. It's an excellent 4-star hotel in a great location across the street from the Greenbelt Center.

The hotel is extremely secure with guards at the doors, a metal detector entry and dogs sniffing packages. All of this is done, however, with a lot of courtesy and smiles so you don't feel the least bit intimidated or inconvenienced.

The lobby is huge with marble floors and enormous flower arrangements. The only odd thing is there is no chairs or sofas in the lobby...but I heard this is true of other Manila hotels. At any given time, there were usually a dozen hotel staff in the lobby to assist with any request.

Our stay included the breakfast buffet which was spectacular with a huge selection of items. There was a omelet station, pancakes made to order, a noodle station, sushi selections, salad bar, pasteries, cereals (hot and cold) and smoothies. We stayed 4 nights and these breakfasts were the highlight of our dining in Manila.

We stayed in a standard guest room with two twin beds. The room was well furnished and large enough to handle the results of 4 days of power shopping by 2 women. I might also add that the lighting in the bathroom is some of the most flattering I've experienced in a hotel.

Taxis in Manila are really cheap. We took taxis to other shopping centers (Greenhills, Market Market) for about PP100 -- at the current exchange rate, that's less than $3. Visitors should be warned that traffic in Manila is horrendous at all times of the day. Motorcycles, cars, trucks, jeepneys and huge buses jockey within a gridlock where no one pays any attention to the lines on the road. Don't be surprised to see another vehicle 2 inches away from your taxi's window -- it's all normal. In Makati, the primary visitor area, the traffic is probably the worst and expect to take 30 minutes to go 5 miles. As I said, taxi fare is cheap, so just sit back and go with the very slow flow.

The location of this hotel could not be better. It is directly opposite the Greenbelt 3 shopping mall where there are many, many restaurants and shops. This means its a very good hotel to stay at if you are new to Manila as theres plenty to do, without having to get into cabs.

The hotel itself is fine, it is comfortable, and clean. the service is good. The bar area is a little on the small side. The breakfast buffet is good, there are some very impressive views from the 24th floor club lounge!

The pool here is fairly big. theres a good gym with several running machines. All as you would expect for a 4.5 star hotel.

My main issue with this hotel when i visited, in February, was the speed of the Internet access. I now use the Peninsula Manila, which is a little bit away, and not as convenient, but as a regular visitor i do not mind getting into taxis to get around.

If its your first time in Manila, do go to this hotel. its an ideal introduction.

Everything was perfect, to the soft beds and pillows to the amenities available in the rooms. What I loved most was their buffet breakfast-- you'd have your eyes full before you could even grab a bite! haha! I wish they'd clean their windows though. :)

Great view of the city. They also have a pool, a number of bar and restaurants to choose from and spa services.

Had stayed here on a business trip – found the stay just about okay. The food at the Pen is better & more vegetarian friendly. So, though I had no negative experiences as such here, I don’t have any special attraction for the New World hotel (also called the Renaissance).

I have to admit that I was very pleased with my stay at the New World Hotel in Makati. It is just a very relaxing place to stay, and I would gladly go back. Among the many positives:

1) Outstanding pool wide enough to swim laps in while others are in the pool.

2) Great and expansive breakfast buffet included in the room price.

3) The friendliest and most helpful of staffs.

4) Excellent location right across from the Greenbelt Mall.

5) Bellhops who would tell cab drivers to put on their meters.

6) Great water pressure in the showers.

7) Very comfortable and quiet rooms.

I managed to get this hotel for $107 all-inclusive through Asia Travel, and while pricey for me, it was nice to have a haven while in Manila. Highly recommended overall.

Located just right across Greenbelt area in Makati the hotel is just perfect for your stay in Makati. Service and staff are incredibly friendly and the pool is one of the biggest in the whole Makati area (perfect if you like to swim). Overall a great place to stay.

Room for improvement:
- The rooms and interior (TV) are a bit outdated.
- No wifi and internet connection can be slow during peak times
