Stayed for 2 nights back in July 2008 for a business trip. First thing I noticed was that the security was really tight. There was luggage scanner and guard dogs. Other than that, it was like any other business hotels I stayed. Check-in was fast and the room was quite nice. Location was excellent as it was right across the malls and had a few meals there. The breakfast was very good and service was great. However, most locals told me for the price I paid (or the price my company paid), I should have gone for other 5* hotels.

Only complaint was that I requested for adjoining room with my colleague facing the Green Belt but was given a room facing the other side. Other than that, it was a good stay.

Good : -
1) Location : near to green belt & malls & starbucks where u can get reasonably priced
wifi.
Bad : -
1) no rooms available of preferred configuration when checked-in early so chose on smoking floor. What a regret it turned out. Smell was bad & stinks your clothing after sometime in room. Called front desk to ask for replacement to Non-Smoking floor & was told will get if & when available.
2) room fitings are old. carpet's dirty. Toiletries...don't bother.
3) internet in room didnt work due to "gateway" recognition problem. IT dept sorted it out after 30mins via phone instructions.
4) couldn't stand smoke so went out for coffee + dinner. Returned & checked with front desk if alternate non-smoking room is available. Lady said yes so gave me new room key card & i promptly transferred my luggage by myself.
4) checked blinking message on room phone. Message states no room in non-smoking floor is available...????? Obviously front desk incoherent in their approach to assist their guest.
5) on checking out, front desk offered airport transfer. Cost was 2,500Peso. Taxi ride outside only less than 300Peso. Do they think guest are stupid?
6) Returned to Manila after few days in Mindanao. Checked into Dusit instead.
7) Hotel should do something about long queue whilst checking in. Never a good idea to keep ppl that give u business waiting.
5 Star hotel?....gotta be kidding. Definitely not a returning guest.

Hotel staff...excellent, absolutely wonderful service. Rooms are OK but TV is old & decrepit. Channel choice is wide includes US, Japanese, Thai, BBC News.
Internet access is pathetic & I would not recommend this hotel if you really need a good internet connection. I was ready to change hotels just on this, however, the coffee shops in the shopping centres opposite offer a good quality connection. breakfast is buffet variety with international choice...average in my estimation. Hotel has several restaurants non of which I tried as the shopping centres opposite offer a wide choice & much better value...Italianinis was really good. Check in & check out were painfully slow.
The hotel bar is staggeringly expensive (by Philipine standards...270Peso for a beer!!!) so, I used it only once for one drink....you can get a beer in other restaurants for less than half that across the road.

these are the problems:

1. No room wireless, so you are stuck working at your desk.
2. Even if you bring your own ethernet cable, the wall electrical outlets are near the bed connected to the room control unit; this means you turn your lights off, your computer powers down bc the electricity stops.
3. Switchboard is woefully understaffed meaning it rings and rings and ....
4. Soap provided is really cheap and behaves like 'lava brand soap' sold in the states. think industrial or straight lye.
5. Lost my laundry
6. The biggie: internet slow as molasses. what a headache. if you want internet plan to go to the business center at some other hotel or starbucks across the street. critical to me, and very unsatisfied.
6. Good aspects: nice pillows, good a/c, friendly service,

I booked the Renaissance (Makati, Manila) through hotels.ca. The website shows "taxes and fees" but it does not indicate what the fees are for. Hotels.ca is an annoying website since the rates shown upfront are not inclusive of fees.

The desk staff are not trained to tell you about the 10% service charge when the quote a rate.

It turns out my wife tipped the bellman but in retrospect it was completely uncalled for since they put a service fee in the bill (both on line and though bookings at the desk).

The lobby has an understated elegance. The rooms are typical size in Asia. Small double beds. Older hotel but upgraded restrooms (separate tub and shower) marble walls and floor. Malls and great restaurants all a step away (across the street.) Grocery and department store within walking distance as well. Even at 2AM, the area seems safe. Too much money for the room ( I would recommend Manila Peninsula.) Incredible service though.

The Renaissance Makati City quickly became one of my favorite hotels in the Philippines after two stays there this August. I couldn't really find anything wrong with this hotel. My room was great, breakfast buffet delicious, service excellent, prime location in Makati by the malls...Even the live music in the lounge was surprisingly good and enjoyable, and my family and I are not the types to usually notice it...One note to consider is to avoid using their business center PC to check your messages - they charge a truly ridiculous price, when you can cross the street into greenbelt shopping center and use a reasonably priced internet cafe instead...

We were able to stay there at half-price, however, and had it been full price, it would definitely be a splurge. Still, I feel like this place is worth it overall.
