“Good location, ok coffee”

Seattle's Best Coffee
Ranked #72 of 89 Coffee & Tea in Makati
Restaurant details
Reviewed January 30, 2014

This Seattle's Best Coffee is located in Ayala Center, Greenbelt 3, ground level. The best thing going for this coffee shop is the location. In the circle area overlooking the park with Cafe Breton, Starbucks, Havana and others. Indoor and outside seating and great atmosphere and comfort, but that is where it ends. Ok coffee and desserts. Service could be better. Dozens of other coffee shops to sit and enjoy.

Im not really fond of coffee but that peppermint one I had was very good. Presentations was cute as well. Their pesto pasta was also delicious.

Admittedly, I'm not a great fan of typical coffee shop coffee, be it here in the Philippines or in the United States, For the most part, I find it weak, fairly tasteless and generic, and this place certainly lived up (or perhaps down) to these expectations. The coffee is pallid, even when "double shots" are requested, and the food is typically bland, microwavable and thoroughly forgettable.

On the plus side however, the service is pleasant, and the outdoor seating area amidst the flora of Greenbelt 3, is attractive and a rather ideal place to watch the world go by. On a further upbeat note, the restaurant itself is reasonably attractive, clean and reasonably appealing.

There's nothing actually wrong with this place, aside from the fact that it serve typically mediocre "designer" coffee that tastes more or less like hot water with a vague coffee smell.

We have enjoyed coffee drinks at the Seattle's Best Coffee shop at Greenbelt over the years but had a rather unpleasant stop here during our most recent visit to Makati, one that will probably keep us away during future trips to Makati.

During this trip we ordered a medium Chai Latte drink (P140), an order we've made probably a dozen times here over the past ten years. All past visits have been fine - good service and decent tasting chai latte and other coffee drinks. Our recent visit was the complete opposite. We were served the wrong drink followed by a cup only half full and filled with froth (didn't realise chai latte drinks came with heavy layers of froth these days). After the froth settled, we had just over a 1/2 cup of chai that was not very tasty and certainly not worth recommending.

In the end, this was just a terrible coffee order, one of the worst we have experienced in a very long time (rating 1 of 5). We felt we had been given the royal 'tourist' treatment and/or were dealing with utter incompetence behind the counter. Difficult to see us returning to Seattle's Best for a while after this experience.
