“Taste, Service and Ambience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2013

I ordered the katsudon, just to compare with other Jap restos in the city. Taste was above average, but the cutlet wasn't soft as expected. Presentation-wise, it wasn't bad. However, the other food made up for it. Salad and tempura were good. My companion enjoyed his zarusoba, cold buckwheat noodles in soy sauce.
What I liked most about Seryna is the service - attentive and courteous. Ambience is also pleasing with the setup of tables. Size of the place can be improved because it can get full of customers easily.
Try the shochu. It is stronger than sake, yet easy to drink. The waiters serve it with a mixture of water and ice. Best thing is it doesn't lead to a hangover.

“Authentic Japanese food without the 5 star hotel prices!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2013

We ate here again last week, my fifth time in this resto and as always, the food was good, authentic Japanese taste without the 5 star hotel prices. I am told the owner do the daily marketing himself, no wonder everytime their seafood are all very fresh. Aside from their seafood, don't miss their amazingly soft "Saikoru Beef". Not cheap, but money for value, worth every cent. Call to reserve a table if you're going during meal time coz chances are you will have a hard time finding a table coz the place is always full.

“OVERSTATED! definitely not the best!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

Being avid japanese- resto fans, my hubby took me out for a surprise dinner-date. We have been food spotting for 6 years around Metro Manila and abroad! (so we both know what the food should taste like!). Husband was really excited after reading the reviews here! He was totally in for the biggest japanese-resto disappointment of his life!!!
1. parking - due to a lot of customers, the parking is not ample. Luckily, the Japanese restaurant next door let us park in their parking area.
2. seating- we were lucky again to get nice seats since they are fully booked. you have to get reservations if you want to check this place out (and yes- be disappointed)

*because we we're feeling lucky, we thought it was a good place to start.... (not!)

3. ambiance- the air-conditioning couldn't accommodate the room temperature since it was crowded. it was already dinner! how much could you take during lunch!?? They provided a floor-type industrial fan!!!! For-real!?? it was disgusting! the strong wind blew dust from the floor to your food and your face! It was the most disgusting experience I've felt!!

another thing about the ambiance, it was cramped, the decorative overhead ceiling was so low, my poor, tall husband wasn't comfortable. what's worse? their ceiling decor, is so dusty they already formed cotton-like dusts molds and who knows what! has anyone noticed their very dirty ceiling!?? its everywhere!!! it was a horrible experience!!! it wasn't zen or jap at all. the seating might seem like I'm together with other tables b/c of the close proximity! no privacy at all. tables nearby kept oggling and smiling! it was downright rude and creepy!!!

4. food- my husband ordered their special chirashi set (his fave food in the world), when he got a taste, he told me it was really bland and immediately he called the server who told him again and again that their "version" is like that. one could hardly taste the vinegar in their sushi rice! he never had a sushi rice like that, ever!!!! all the japanese restaurant we've tried (30 or so) such as kimono ken, served a well-seasoned sushi rice!!!! that's super super basic japanese culinary knowledge!!! Even I know how to!!! from 5 star hotels to small jap-restos around the Philippines, this is the blandest sushi rice ever!!! my udon noodles are not cooked thoroughly they were gummy and not al-dente, my yasai itame is very salty and small in serving (this was ala-carte not set-meal!?), and the chicken terriyaki has no terriyaki sauce!!!! i had to request one and they immediately complied! terriyaki with no sauce!?? it looks pale and bland grilled white chicken that has no marinade but salt!?? why would i pay for that!??

5. price- ridiculous. What did i pay for here!? to get a big-fat disappointment!

My hubby requested me to write this first restaurant review. Overall, we felt robbed, disgusted, and cheated since we paid 1800 pesos. You can get a buffet much better at 5 star hotel like in marriot cafe, 101, saisaki, etc for the price we've paid. Definitely not worth it! Good luck!

“Need to Go Back Soon!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013 via mobile

If there's one Japanese Restaurant that i should go back to, it has to be Seryna. The food is authentic Japanese and the place is always packed with sushi lovers. I am not one of them but i love their pork tonkatsu and grilled chicken. They have lunch bentos available and the price is not bad.
There are a number of Japanese restaurants around Little Tokyo and each and everyone of them is worth the visit.
